I have a 2024 Bronco Sport Outer Banks and just joined the forum. I would like any recommendations that others could make for a good, reasonably priced bike rack for my Bronco Sport.

What kind of bike are you carrying? And how many?

I have a 29-er MTB and it doesn’t fit the internal rack without a crazy amount of effort.

I also have an e-bike and it needs an uprated hitch-mounted rack due to it’s weight.

And my road bike fits in the back just fine after folding the rear seats down.

I have the interior as well, it's been fantastic so far, keeps the bike safe and out of the weather. This is a Large frame dual suspension for reference.

I tried many different orientations of the mounting bracket and just couldn’t get a good fit. Which BS do you have? Maybe my Badlands has a bit less height available because of the bigger spare? My bike is a size M hardtail and it was a bear to squeeze it in. After a few attempts I decided it was easier to use the hitch rack instead.

I have a older Yakima bike rack collecting dust in my cellar. It goes in a trailer hitch and holds 2 bikes. I'm in Central New York (Syracuse) and it's a freebie for someone. Contact me in conversations if you're interested.

Take a look at the bracket that I mounted to, I had to flip it upside down, this was the only way to get my handlebars to fit. I also had to drop the seat a bit, and readjust before riding.

I have the Yakama inside version and a 1up SuperDuty outside one. Depends on what you are hauling. For most cases, I prefer the home made inside version. It stores in the spare tire area and sets up fast. I do have to lower the seats though. Unfortunately the e-bikes don’t fit inside.

Thanks for all the input regarding bike racks. I would prefer going with an external rack as I want to have the interior space to take other items on camping trips with the bike. I guess that would mean, though, that I need to add a hitch to my Bronco sport in order to attach an external rack. Is that correct?

Yep … 2” hitch is what you want to install and get a bike rack that fits the 2” hitch

Yes, an external hitch would need to be added. If all you plan on using it for is a bike rack or cargo basket, you can go 1-1/4 or 2. Inch but I’d recommend a 2 inch version. U-Haul can provide and install or one by Curt if you want to install.

Another option is a cargo box or basket on your roof for your camping supplies and keep your bike inside. I’ve hauled bikes around for several decades going from bumper mounts, trunk mounts, roof mounts, inside racks, and hitch mounts. My preference is the inside racks as the protect the bikes best from weather and theft. We could pack a lot around the bikes plus if needed we used a roof cargo box. Much of it depends on the size and expense of your bike(s). With our larger e-bikes, we are forced to the hitch mount. While it holds the bikes well and is made for off road use, I don’t like fact they are left exposed. You can get covers though but I’m not a fan of those.

The good news is you have plenty of options and multiple ways of hauling your bikes.

I had a trailer hitch put on mine and found a Thule bike carrier for about $200. Those are normally much more expensive if you get new though.
