I have a 2022 BSBB bought in Mexico, which is where I live. I am required to get all required oil changes and other maintenance done at a dealership. Otherwise, I void the warranty. Is this the same policy in the US and Canada? It has been over 30 years since I bought a new Ford in the US, so I don´t know if these requirements now apply elsewhere.

In the U.S. you are not required to go to the dealer. You will have to keep track of ALL maintenance work, and if there is an issue, you will have to fight to get Ford to cover the cost. For the most part oil changes are not a big deal as long as you have records. But, if their is a part failure,it is far easier to go to the dealer. Enjoy your new ride!

In Canada it is not a requirement. Keep track of your maintenance records but if they feel oil changes was an issue, they'll just send a sample to a lab to check its quality.

We have the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act in the U.S. that protects the consumer. It prevents written warranties from lessening the coverage provided by implied warranties.

In simple terms, if the automotive manufacturer requires that you use their parts or oils to maintain the warranty, then they must provide the parts/fluids to the owner at no cost.

As long as the service provider establishment uses parts and fluids that meet the recommended requirements of the manufacturers requirements, the owner is covered if there are any warranty issues.

However, if you modify any part of the vehicle while it is under warranty, then that component or part of that vehicle is subject to losing its warranty coverage for that component.

Example: if you lower or raise the suspension of a vehicle while it is under warranty, it could void the warranty for that modification.

A fine line here, as the dealer/automotive manufacturer could challenge your modification. I've seen where dealers modify a brand new vehicle, then hike up the sticker price. I assume the manufacturers warranty stays intact, but I'd want that in writing before I buy.

Who told you that, "...you are required to get all required oil changes and other maintenance done at a dealership"?

For your sake, I hope that's not true -- especially if the dealer overcharges for work.

You might want do some research online and see if you can find that requirement in writing.

As others have pointed out, in the U.S. it would be ILLEEGAL for a mfr to require that customers have routine maint work done at a dealership.

Non USA countries may have strict warranty requirements as defined in the warranty document for that country. For example, according to this video there is both a mileage and a time requirement in Mexico.

I did find this statement applicable to Mexico: “you MUST have all service recommended under the warranty done AT THE DEALER, or void warranty.”

Bummer.

Hopefully the money saved by living in Mexico more than makes up for any stealership overcharges.

It is a requirement in Mexico, which is where I bought the vehicle and live. Other Manufacturers here have the same requirement. I was asking whether the US dealerships have a similar requirement.

The manufacture can require you to get your maintenance done at the dealer if the car is a LEASE.
