I hate to be the bearer of bad news. I just bought a 2024 Badlands for my wife. We both love the vehicle. The problem was we had to buy something because our 2017 Ford Escape 1.5 died at 80k. Metal kept appearing in the engine oil, causing the super fine screens on the variable valve timing solenoids to clog. I took it to two dealers and they both said the engine would probably need to be replaced even though they couldn't tell me where the metal was coming from. The estimate they gave me for a new engine was a little over 11K (the car was probably worth about 10k with a good engine). I ended up getting about 3k for it on a trade-in. Which is more than anybody else would have given us. We purposely bought a badlands because it at least had the 2.0. Which seems to be a better engine. The escape was a relatively good vehicle up until it started having problems around 75,000 miles. We bought it used and I don't know how well it was maintained before we got it. The consensus was the engine was worn because at some point it wasn't maintained properly. But I always had it maintained at the dealer. But we bought it used with 30,000 mi on it. We love the Bronco and I hope it lasts a long time, but we bought the extended warranties just in case. I think they just don't make cars like they used to all around. My '05 Silverado SS has about 300,000 miles on it and doesn't leak or burn more than a a half quart of oil between oil changes. I did have to put a new transmission in at 180,000. But that was far better than the 17 Silverado I had that was burning three quarts of oil between oil changes with only 90,000 milea on it. The transmission failed at 120,000 and a new one was 6k. So I sold it and cut my losses. I sure am glad I held on to my SS.
2017 Ford Escape 1.5 is not the same engine used in the Bronco Sport. That one was an I-4 and this new 1.5L is a 3 cylinder. Dragon engine has been around in Europe since 2018. I haven’t really seen any issues regarding the dragon engine. If anything I’ve heard more issues about the transmission these vehicles all share.

My escape had the 1.5 3 Cylinder. I'm absolutely positive. It was a 2017 Titanium so maybe it was one of the first to get them. Just search 1.5 3 Cylinder class action lawsuit.

On the Badlands, I'm worried about the few posts I've seen of transmission failures around 75k miles.

My 2022 OBX has 32k, I plan to keep it till near 100k, that is when my extended Ford warranty ends. I've had all the recalls and same of the mechanical issues as most. My wife is driving my 2019 GMC AWD Terrain now, it has 98k miles it had one recall and no other issues.

Hello all,

So I own a 2021 Bronco Sport and as many of you have I just received yet another recall. I am at about 46,000 miles and I am losing faith that the vehicle will be good to keep after 60,000 miles when the warranty is done and am considering trading it in.

How long do we realistically think these things can go?

Thanks
My 2021 Bronco Sports Badlands just crossed 129k Kms (around 80k miles) and runs with no issues. Dont stress about how long it will last. Just enjoy it and have fun.

There isn’t a vehicle on the road today that hasn’t had a recall for one thing or another. Just be thankful that Ford is doing whatever it takes to ensure that your Bronco Sport will last you many more years of reliable driving

According to the Wiki page for the Ford 8f(35/40) transmission the maximum torque capacity is 260 # ft. The Eco-Boost 2.0 in the Badlands makes 277 # ft (Ford). The odds aren't in the transmission's favor for longevity unless you drive gently all the time.

Our 21 BS/BB has 42K miles & we are keeping it until we cannot drive any more. To those that are questioning the longanimity of the BS because of a few recalls, what vehicle do you expect to buy that does not have any recalls?
I have a 2022 BB, she has 60,000+ miles. Most of my issues were recalls except for the water pump.

This is my plan, too. I figured it'll be paid for and I'll be able to save up some for the next car by the time my exited warranty ends at 100k.

If things look good, I'll keep driving it. But either way, I'll be ready.
