For the past 3 weeks I have been getting random no-starts. It takes about 5-10 minutes to reset and then typically it will start. This morning after several attempts, it won’t start. I thought battery, but the dealer checked the battery during the recent PCM/BCM update recall and said it was good. The battery is at 12.2 volts, but then drops to about 7 volts when it’s going through the electrical hiccups. See pictures and video attached. Any thoughts?

I suggest your dealership do a full charging system diagnostic test. Is the vehicle still under warranty?

what type of battery test did the dealership perform? Was it the load test?

After waiting an hour, I went out and tried it, and it started - no problem.
just out of warranty- by time, only 35k miles.
I think they load tested the battery.

Did the dealership provide you with the Battery State of Health (SOH) when they did the load test? If not you might call them Monday and see if that is in your records.

(If you haven’t had a new battery in those 3yrs+ you might consider just getting a new battery)

Agree with replacing a 3+ year old battery. Especially if you use the auto stop system which is an additional strain on the battery.

Just spent $300 on an AGM for a classic car and it tested bad a couple weeks later. Was covered in dust when I got it from NAPA so I questioned its age. Now they get to replace it free.

So my 2021 is back at Ford.
They’re currently trying to figure out why I am having what seems like electrical issues but they think it’s the battery.
The battery was replaced was an AGM back in August because the bronco completely shut off, my husband was driving home from work, no power no emergency lights no nothing and we were told it was the battery. Had that replaced, then the alternator, then the torque converters, now it’s another recall issue. Funny thing is…. This recent recall is for the PCM module, which will affect your vehicles power…. I said this to Ford just after the complete shutdown back in August. Now the recall is out for that very reason months later.
I’ve been having issues with the power lately where things work and things don’t work so I scheduled an appointment, got the recall letter, Ford scheduled it for the same appointment, and they are once again, looking at all kinds of things could be wrong and the battery is once again up for debate. They said there’s something draining it and they’re trying to figure it out.
I have like 65k on my vehicle now…
Love this bronco … tired of the issues.
Let us know what happens with yours!

I'd be looking for a bad ground. Beyond that, there's the squirrel/ mouse effect, where a critter has chewed through a wiring harness somewhere causing an intermittant short.

12.2 volts means your battery is about 50% charged. If you're out of warranty, take it to an auto parts store or a battery store. They will do a load test in 5 minutes and tell you if you need a new one. I've found that there are so many electronics on these beasts that the charging system doesn't keep up unless you do some long drives or put a charger on it.

On my F-250, which I rarely drive, I put a 20 watt solar panel on the dash to keep the dual batteries charged. With an inexpensive charge controller, it keeps the battery topped off.

I agree with all the comments, I think a normal reading would be in the 14v range, guys correct me if I’m wrong here. Fords electronics do strange things when the battery isn’t up to par. Logic would tell us that 12v would be sufficient to run everything but we had a Lincoln MkZ that behaved weirdly until the battery was replaced. As suggested a load test should identify if the battery is cooked.

Slightly above 14 with the engine running; you'll be getting power from the alternator. With the engine off you get battery voltage, which when fully charged should be around 12.5, +/- 0.2.

Of course our Bronco worked perfectly while at the dealership. They said they checked the battery and said they load tested it too, so nothing was done. I decided to upgrade the battery from the lead acid to an AGM and did that on Monday on my own. So far no reoccurrence of the electrical hiccups (knock on wood). Facebook BS forum made it sound like my issues are not unique and that changing to the AGM battery fixes the problem. I continue to hope that it’s resolved. Won’t celebrate until I go a few more days/weeks without problems.

When I had to swap out batteries, they gave me an AGM and now my vehicle is back in they’re having issues
Having electrical issues it’s having battery failure issues. It’s got a recall because of the PCM card they don’t know what’s wrong. I haven’t heard from them in two days.
