I just came across this thread and I figured that I would share my experience. I have been using the 5 Star tune on my 1.5 BSBB for roughly 12,000 miles now on 92 octane and I haven't had any issues. 5 Star has also been very pleasant to deal with. Prior to the tune I was running 8.2 0-60 times with my Dragy. Though I never did a 1/4 mile run, I would wager that it would have been in the mid 16 second range. After loading the tune the times drastically reduced to 6.3 0-60 and 14.8 1/4 mile, which is on par, if not slightly quicker, than what I've seen from the stock 2.0. I also have a K&N intake and Flowmaster axle-back (previously MBRP) and a handful of other small mods that don't affect power. The large bump in low end torque when just putting around town is a night and day difference. The throttle response is a lot better as well, especially in sport mode, and having the auto start/stop permanently disabled is great. Fuel economy isn't negatively affected either, as even with my lead foot, I am averaging 28.4 MPG and roughly 440-470 miles per tank. The transmission loads up and shifts a bit firmer, but nothing that makes me feel it is of any harm. Especially since the Maverick and BSBL share the same transmission while using the 2.0L. I have also seen MK8 Fiesta ST's pushing even more power with this engine, so I'm not too worried about reliability. As of right now, I would absolutely recommend the tune if anybody is interested.

This little 1.5l displacement works hard enough. I'd worry about putting any extra strain on it but that's me. :)

Thanks for sharing your interesting information and your stock 0-60 times are right on from a Car and Driver test on a 2021 Bronco Sport Outer Banks 0-60 was 8.2 seconds and 1/4 mile was a 16.3@84 MPH. I thought about the 5 star tune for my BSBB what was the cost for it? Good way to get the times of the 2.0 EB without paying the IIRC 6 grand more base price over the BSBB.The 2.0 EB would be a nice option for the BSOB or BSBB but i wonder how much more it would be?I do have the Pedal Max which made my BSBB much more exiting to drive and really improved the throttle response and quicker down shifts. But i'm sure with your tune your BS is much more exiting to drive than mine with the Pedal Max.

The downside is the risk of engine damage not covered by your warranty.

The tune was only $165, but the SCT x4 tuner was around $400, which I already had prior to buying the tune. When I bought my BSBB the BSBL was closer to $10K more, so to make equal power and performance for less than $600 is pretty good. We'll see how well this powertrain and drivetrain hold up, but I'm not expecting anything catastrophic to happen. This is the fourth bolt-on and tuned EcoBoost engine that I've done and I have yet to have an issue. It's definitely a lot more fun to drive with the tune, especially with all of the induction/bypass valve and exhaust noises.

Is that 0-60 time recorded on your tuner? Or are you using a watch. That's pretty d@mn good man. My Mustang won't break 5.3 so cheers!

I'd be very careful with a tune that requires a 92 octane. In particular, on a small displacement 3 banger. "Safe" tunes usually ask for 91. 92 tells me, the tuner felt that they pushed the envelope just a tad bit more. Not as volatile as 93...but not as "safe" as 91. The tune, that is.

On the flipside, I'm with ya. Ive been waiting on the Cobb tune release for my 23. I can't believe they haven't put it out yet. But I plan on regligiously running it on 91, even though I do believe it comes with a 93 tune, which I won't touch. Why? Because I'm not racing my BS at the track like my Mustang. Maybe on a cold winter morning, when some froggy Jeep pulls along side me, I decided to dial it up to see who's who.

At the business range of the RPM curve, the Cobb 91 tune delivers almost 245 hp. 93 is only nominaly more.

My times were recorded with a Dragy. It's a GPS based performance measuring tool and is a pretty awesome little device. You see them used all over YouTube. It shows everything from timings, to temperature, elevation and density altitude, to slope grade, and it even records video.

92 is just what premium is here where I live. I have done a lot of custom tuning on previous cars and every tuner that I have worked with has said that the 92 here is basically on par with 93. Some tuners offer 92 OTS tunes, but most just have you use a 91 tune while using 92 octane if you aren't doing custom tuning. I would even argue that the 5 Star tune that I have could just be a 91 tune, no different than what you would get with Cobb, Mountune, Stratified, or any other OTS tuner. I mostly have it for the same reason that you just stated, which is more power when need be, but I'm not out racing every thing I see. I had the Dragy long before purchasing my Bronco and the times that I listed were more just to show the massive difference in performance with the tune.

Those are some impressive gains with that tune , makes me wanna try it , but I bought the expensive 80k 10yr warranty, so it will be a few miles/ years before a do any mods to the drive train.

this is what i like to see, long term reviews.
thanks for letting everyone know what you have accomplished.
alot of hate on these lil 1.5 engines but reviews like this are wicked awesome.
$600 is some coin to shell out, but it is what it is.
maybe once warranty is done, i'll jump on it.
but again, thanks for the review! ??

When your Bronco was stock, did you experience the low gear, low rpm transmission fluttering? Not sure how to describe it, but mine feels like it stutters or searching for a gear sometimes. wondering if a tune would alleviate that?

Of course the dealer couldn’t replicate.

Yeah, my transmission behaves like that as well. I believe that's just how this transmission is. The first few gears are always jittery and buck a lot, especially with downshifts. It makes driving in stop and go traffic uncomfortable. The tune didn't change that at all. I believe all 5 Star does is increase the line pressure for firmer shifts. Outside of that the transmission appears to behave the same.

guess I’ll just drive in sport mode for the rest of it’s days ?

My transmission doesn't do the things you guys are describing maybe because i have the Pedal Max installed on mine.
