That's the manufacturer of the dynamometer. Who conducted the test? Please share a link.

Thanks. I take product tests conducted by the product manufacturer with a grain of salt. If you look carefully at the conditions for the two tests you'll see they were conducted on different days. The powertrain control module measures factors such as air temp/pressure/humidity/etc., and changes control parameters to optimize power output. All of these can change from day-to-day, rendering accurate comparisons problematic. I would give this comparison more credence if both tests had been conducted on the same day, preferably at the same time of day so there isn't much variance in temperature.

This is K&N's dyno sheet for their cold air intake for the 1.5, if you drive in the upper rev range the majority of the time the graph does show improvement. Horsepower is expensive

Improvement in a filter, maybe, but most OEM piping is already "cold air". You're just paying for under hood eye candy at best.

They usually do testing both ways. The problem with doing back to back dynos is that the vehicle doesn’t have time to learn. With the addition of all of the computers and sensors on today’s vehicles, most cars take about 200 miles after a bolt on performance part is installed before they recalibrate everything. Some parts make great performance back to back but then after the vehicle relearns, it goes right back to the OE performance because the fuel trims recorrect.

5 Star tune for a good power gain would be what i would spend money on not a Cold Air Intake!!

I have three scenarios to compare:

1. Completely stock in normal mode and running regular gas.

2. Completely stock in sport mode running hi-test gas.

3. 5 star tune with appropriate gas.

My question is performance differences between these three scenarios. Does the vehicle run that much better in sport mode with premium gas vs. stock? Does the tune run that much better than sport mode and premium gas to justify the expense?

increased wear and tear on engine components, reduced fuel efficiency, potential impact on emissions compliance, and the possibility of voiding the manufacturer's warranty. Sounds like money well spent!!!

For the record, I ordered my S&B CAI mainly for the purpose of additional sound. I have always put on a CAI on all of my previous vehicles and have enjoyed any additional response available (that was not the primary reason for purchase). Most installations have been accompanied with a cat-back exhaust system as well., so this is probably step one (the cheaper step compared to exhaust).

I like the setup of the S&B (vs. K&N) because it is a closed system, has a full-size view of the filter (unlike AFE that is tiny!) and the huge intake that is the full length of the radiator (Ford's intake is small). My Ford dealership even recommended S&B.

I should be able to get it and install this weekend. I'll report back with my comments.
i was looking at this, and it's pretty nice. Only for 2.0 tho, i'll see if i can JB Weld another cylinder on my 1.5 this weekend.

In my opinion, not needed on the 2.0L.
0-60 in 5.9 seconds is quick enough even if the K&N system does anything..

Cold air intakes, hi-flow/catless downpipes etc are a good upgrade on certain applications for sure. I'm a believer. However, you have to do it properly with tuning. Just slapping on an intake wont do much, and as stated is more for eye candy.
My past cars (Neon SRT4, Cobalt ss/sc, Mazdaspeed Protege and Civic SI) definitely hands down without a doubt make power with a tune, intake, and downpipe. A proper tuning application such as Hondata, Diablosport, HPtuners to name a few, is the key. I would realtime datalog, send it to my tuner via email, they would tweak it, email me back, paste it to the pcm, and so on and so on until things were perfect.
For the 1.5, it's not really about performance for me, rather its an eco motor for day to day driving. However, once it's off warranty i'll prob slap on an AFE CAI just because it's eye candy under the hood.

Heck, go for 3 or 5 more cylinders....just get the bigger tube of JB Weld.

You might want to read up on 5 Star tunes they offer engine warranties IIRC and i was talking about prices of Cold Air Intakes and Cat Back Exhaust big money for no GAINS!!I've read on the F-150 Forums with the Eco Boost engines 2.7 and 3.5 some of those guys had over 60,000 miles on them with 5 Star Tunes and No Problems!!And it would have to be proved the Tune caused the problem!!So what would your advice be for better performance without spending 7 grand more to step up to the Badlands BS 2.0 Eco Boost?

Not sure on 1 and 2 but it looks like the 5 Star 93 Octane Tune for the 1.5 Eco Boost made 50 More RWHP 150 vs 200 and 60 more RWTQ 190 vs 250 RWTQ
