Can anyone tell me why I need Nav functions in the infotainment system when I have a smart phone with three different Map apps that all work fine?
You might need a map and be out of cell coverage. Unless that wold scotch the NAV map as well. Paper map, baby. You're good to go!

I often use Google, I like that it's up to date and has live traffic. I download maps local for where I live and for where I'm traveling to, so coverage isn't an issue. Satellite, like the car NAV, works even without cell coverage.

Our Bronco came with NAV, so I'll keep the maps up to date, I figure why not, if they're free. But no traffic , construction, accidents, etc, unless you subscribe to Sirius XM makes it less useful.

I have sometimes found using the NAV in the car convenient, but again, no traffic info. Also, since getting a Bluetooth wireless adapter Android auto and Google Maps is more convenient.

In the end, I use Google maps more, but sometimes use that one in the car for a change (since the car has it anyway).

You should have Sirius xm travel and traffic links free for 5 years. You do not need to subscribe to the music service to get those

Oh, thanks for that! Makes car NAV more useful (my opinion)

Well I have been attempting to download the file all day today. Like another person posted earlier this month, it gets no more than 8gb into the download and the. Stops and says connection lost. I’m on lates version of MacOS and I’ve attempted it both over Wi-Fi as well as wired. I have the highest speed internet Xfinity offers. So I’m certain it is not my home network that’s the problem. I’ve also attempted to download over my iPad with very similar issues. I don’t get a “connection lost” message but it just stops downloading. It kills me to pay $40 to have a pre-loaded USB stick mailed to me. This should not be this difficult.

Mine always stops for a couple minutes sometimes. I just stopped watching it.

If you let it sit for a long time, more than a minute or two, and can't get it you can email Sync Support. I can also share the files with you. I'd have to upload them first. You will need to download your license file.

Thank you for the offer. I FINALLY got it to fully download. I switched FireFox and it failed then switched to MS Edge and it finished. Hallelujah!

I did the free Ford map update. The map is still missing roads that are more then a couple of years old. Baked in nav is usually useless.
Unfortunately, vehicle Nav updates are still a couple of years behind.

I have completed the update. wondering if anyone has experienced this. Hopefully it helps others. instructions say it will restart twice. 1st restart @9 minutes told me some software had successfully downloaded. Took it a minute and the I saw the Updating System Software message come up again. I could easily see where someone would think it’s done because of the time it took for the updating message to show up again. 2nd restart =@20 minutes happened and again told me software was updated but it did NOT tell me I could remove the usb so I let it sit there a minute and the system update message popped back up. no additional restart but at roughly 35 minutes it a message popped up and told me I was done and to remove the USB and go through a key restart on the vehicle. Now that I know what to expect, this will be easy. But I can definitely see where some would get confused and pull the usb too soon thinking they’re done.

Yes that was same for me - with Ford software updates via USB Device just have to give it plenty of time and wait like you did. I do the software updates while on long drives to give it plenty of time and pull off the road to do the power cycles and/or Key Cycles when prompted.

How often do map updates come out? My '23 OBX was built in Dec and now a new version of maps is out. If I purchase it, how long will this new version be current?

New maps typically come out once a year ..they are always a year behind the current year
