Sync 3.4 Build 23188 now available directly from Ford. Updating now with USB flash drive.

https://www.ford.com/support/sync-maps-updates/

Update through Wi-Fi from the vehicle is also now available. I updated by downloading to a computer and using a USB flash drive. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS.

This is a quick and easy download. Installation took 10 minutes.

Hopefully, this update addresses the Build 22251 issues.

Make sure you do a key cycle after installation. I also did a master reset and paired my phones again. You will have to reset your SiriusXM presets after a master reset. It will take some time for the SiriusXM station logos to repopulate.

I also had to perform a reactivation of Ford Pass. My in vehicle Wi-Fi hotspot now works again.

Overall, I am very satisfied after all the frustration.

This update corrects all the issues.

Just did this on mine. One thing on the updates, they always seem to install successfully, but it never has written back the XML file to the USB drive. If it has, I've never found it. I know that uploading this file to Ford has been an issue and I don't really worry about it since everything seems to work just fine. Cheers!

If you check for updates using Wi-Fi from the vehicle itself, Ford will receive your current version status.

I did this after updating using a USB flash drive.

With the master reset did you loss your Nav functions and /or vehicle connection to your ford pass app?

Yes you will lose those settings. You will have to setup once again.

Did you update your maps to NA 2 22 yet?

I didn't perform a master reset before performing the update and all functions are working fine. Doing the map update in a couple of days. Since the update my Fordpass is working properly, the radio isn't turning itself on at engine startup, and everything seems to be working much better and faster

I downloaded to the USB no sweat. When I insert the USB the computer recognizes it. Then it indexes it. How long does the program have to run to complete the download?

Does it say "indexing" or does it say "updating software" on the top of the screen?

I did this after updating using a USB flash drive.
Thanks for this info.

FYI, in case others had a similar experience:
I updated with USB, and after complete I found the xml file to upload to Ford in the SyncMyRide folder. Upon upload I got some kind of error message and a statement that their people will look at it and update their records to reflect the most currency sync version.

My vehicle shows the current version and seems to have completed, I guess I just need to wait for my file to be reviewed so the mother ship matches my updated version.

After reading the post I quoted I did connect through Wifi and search for updates, and I did get the message that I am up to date. It seems like for me, even doing that, since I already attempted to upload my XML file Ford still shows that I need to make an update.

I'll check back in my Ford vehicle dashboard in a few days and make sure it shows the current version, if not... I'll contact Ford.

A few questions…
  • How big of a USB drive do you need?
  • How do you do a key cycle and master reset? Is the key cycle just on and off? Is the master reset just in the menus?
  • Can I have this install while I’m driving around? I’m going out of town tomorrow.
  • If I need to buy a USB drive, I’m assuming USB-C would be best?

Get a 32GB drive, can be either USB-A or USB-C.

Key cycle is to finish the install and applies the new settings. It's just as you said, turning the car off and then back on.

You don't need to perform a master reset unless you are running 3.4.22251. Even then you can most likely just install right over it. Master reset is in the menus, I can't remember the exact place but you'll see it

Yes, you can do the install while driving around. No issues there.

  • 8 GB or larger for sync, but I would get at least 32 GB. If you have NAV, an update recently came out for that too, and IIRC the instructions for that wanted at least 16GB.
  • For key cycle I turned engine off, opened the door, closed it, then started vehicle. again. I didn't do a master reset but think it's in the system menu in the vehicle.
  • I did mine while driving, but it didn't take very long at all, 10 minutes maybe. The Nav update took 45 minutes for me. I did my Nav update first (while driving), then came home and reformatted my USB drive, transferred the Sync update, then did the Sync update. I don't think it matters which you do first.
  • I used a regular USB (not USB-C) but did get a new one because mine were all old and of 8GB or less, and I also wanted one with faster transfer speeds. Not sure at what point the higher speeds help much for the vehicle update, but it does help transferring files to and from the drive.
