How many different types of fobs are there, and is any one of them better or worse?

23 Heritage, and I got a couple of very basic fobs - unlock, lock, panic and convenience key. I keep seeing threads and pics with other features like remote start or liftgate unlock. Ford going minimalist on fobs? Yes, I have and use the app as well as the b-pillar buttons. Just wondering about the fob evolution.

Yep. Fobs are dwindling. My '21 Badlands came with a 5-button fob. They went to a 4 button missing the liftgate button. Which you need if your IA quits working!

Does yours remote start? I guess you have to use the Pass app.

Both the key fob and phone remote start.

Yup, only remote start with the app. Can’t drive away without the fob, though.

I haven't tried it but this video shows key fob remote start capability.

No remote start on mine, but I rarely use it anyways.

I think the form factor is the same on all of 'em. Get a 5 button cover/case and no one will know.

Remote start via the fob requires a specific module be installed in the car. If you didn't get it from the factory (check your window sticker) then you would have to purchase and install it yourself. If you install the perimeter plus alarm system it includes the remote start module, and it will work with the fob you have. See my post on installing the perimeter plus alarm here.

It’s not the number of buttons on your fob, it’s … I dunno, the analogy doesn’t work.
