I have a new 2023 Bronco Sport 1.5 liter 3 cylinder turbo. So far this has only happened when I need power on an incline, and when I press on the gas, the car seems to go into limp mode. The RPM’s don’t increase and I can’t get over 3-5mph. On even surface or downhill, I have no issues. Could this be a turbo or RPM sensor? Appreciate any insight before I take t in.

I just got mine and haven't hit any steep hills yet. Not happy reading this. I've read the 1.5L slows down up hill but nothing like that.

I've done lots of steep hills and never a problem.
Good to know because on my trips back to NJ, I hit the Blue Ridge mountain.

It’s pretty bad, if I get a good run at the hill, I don’t have any issues, but if I have to start on the hill, it barely moves. And I was in a precarious situation, having a back up a hill, and I had it pinned, and it did not even move 1 inch.

Something is definitely wrong. Dealer service time.

I'm still on my dealer free fill up but will use 93 all the time.

No, this is not normal. You need to take it to the shop and get it fixed.

Do you give it enough throttle to upshift? I notice on mine, that when approaching steep hills, it feels like a locked torque converter on a truck. Enough throttle and it’ll downshift then give you some boost. If you’re pressing the pedal all the way down, then there’s a problem.

Regular gas or premium? My 1.5 has serious issues with regular gas and basically requires premium in hot weather.
Really?! I typically use regular, but on this occasion, I actually had premium in it…

Should not have to use premium fuel to climb a hill. Sure, you can get slightly better performance out of premium, but regular gas should get you up a hill.

Take it to the dealer. Something is wrong.

Premium is never "required" unless you need maximum power. The engine will only produce the advertised maximum power using premium fuel. The behavior you describe cannot be attributed to the use of regular gas. There is a problem with your engine that needs to be diagnosed and repaired by a Ford service center.

Yeah this isn't an engine "lack of power" or "gas type" issue. Something is not right somewhere. I've climbed several steep graded hills (some with some considerable divets/ruts) on my big bend rolling on K02 245/65/17's and it's handled every single one just fine.

This may be a different problem all together. But when it starts to get hot outside my 1.5 requires premium to run correctly. I know it's not supposed to and something must be wrong. But it's a hard problem to diagnose because it usually doesn't happen until you've been driving for a while. From a full stop I can hit the gas and nothing will happen for 2 seconds. Then it will start to rev up. I can put my foot all the way down to the floor and nothing for 2 seconds. I finally found a thread talking about it and premium gas was the fix.

There's 2 differnt threads and there's 2 different problems being described in both. Some have the engine reving and seems to be the transmission. And some have no engine rev like I did, and premium gas fixed it.

I don’t guess I know what you mean by upshift, I tried it in slippery mode, sand mode, and low… And it didn’t make a difference
