I forgot where I read this but it was when I was researching white cars. I was originally looking into Hondas and a few years ago they were having issues with white paint peeling off.

So what they said was to hold off as long as you can to let the paint fully cure so this isn't an issue.

Has anyone else heard about this? Could this be an issue with the BS? Mine is in Oxford White. It's not too dirty, a little mud and some water streaks.

It also has a diamond ceramic coating from the dealership (yeah, I missed that when buying it, long story and maybe for another thread). I'm guessing I can just rinse it off for now, if it's what I think it is.

The new water based paints are cured very quickly. If nothing else, the dealer has already washed it, before the coating. No reason to wait for a wash if you want it clean.

To agree with Meanderthal in a slightly different way, your wash theory about waiting is hogwash.

Ironic that hogwash fits here.

That's what I was thinking but just wanted to double check.

I'm thinking I want to do what I can to make sure the paint's fine and be able to use that ceramic coating warranty stuff I paid for without them denying anything.

Just use a good wash that is NOT designed to strip off wax and coatings. I like Griot's Brilliant Finish but there are many fine options.

Yes, I think I’ll be washing myself. I stopped by the local car wash to give it a rinse since there was mostly dust on it. Knobs broken, dirty.

Interesting, some dirt streaks don’t come off with just a rinse. I thought that would be the case with the diamond ceramic coating. They come off easy when I rub with my finger though.

Hand wash and dry. The neighbors love seeing me in my speedo.

I’ve never washed a car before but now I feel like I’m depriving the neighbors.

First, use an iron remover. You will be surprised how much crud is already on the paint! Then clay bar, then use a wax or spray coating of some sort for protection. Below are my go-to products.

This is for sure good advice before coating. I also washed using a surface prep wash and have a deionizer for my hose. Once you get a solid ceramic coating, a nice foam and rinse will usually do the job for all but the most stubborn gunk.

Definitely ONLY handwash if you want to preserve the coating.

Thanks. But I’m pretty sure there was never a coating. Thinking back, it took about an hour total to prep it. Unless they did it earlier in the day before I thought of going to that dealership.

The original post mentioned a diamond ceramic coating. If that's NOT on there, I would be looking for some satisfaction from the dealer.

Yeah, the problem is how do I prove that it’s not on there? And they’re 3 hours away.
