Sounds like your search for the right shop worked out well. Looks fabulous in the pictures.

First, I'm sorry to hear about the hail damage, I know I'm abit late to the party here but figured I would share. I'm outside of Dallas. My previous car a 2010 Honda Pilot was almost completely destroyed by hail 2x. In both situations the top had to be cut off the car and hammered out. The first one was almost $30K in damage (it barely missed a tornado at DFW), and the second was around $10K.

I'm currently in a home with a two car garage, which the Girlfriend and my Son Claim for their cars, so mine is out in the cold.

Anyway, to the point, I recently purchased this: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07SSLZ584?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

I haven't event put it on yet (will do it this weekend to insure the fit), but was wondering if anyone had experience with these or suggestions for how to keep their ponies safe...

Update: I tested this out on 1/8/2023 and the cover fit, can't speak to the effectiveness yet, but it looks like it would protect from small hail, possibly to quarter size.

My suggestion would be that your son's car is the one outside. I can understand the wife but not the kid.

That was my first thought too! I love my kids, which is why I think it's important they learn early that RHIP.

Or at least get a carport so it is in out of the weather.

I got caught in ping-pong ball sized hail driving through Utah in September, can't believe I didn't get hail damage, no idea how that happened.

This was the storm I was caught in going south on I-15
https://www.fox13now.com/weather/massive-hail-falls-on-southern-and-eastern-utah

The sound of hail pounding my car, waiting for the windshield to eventually crack, meanwhile having the dogs in the car who are scared, unsure if they'll be hurt by the noise, meanwhile traffic is at a standstill because there was so much hail the road iced over, it was horrible.

Thankfully to make things worse I locked up (I was approaching the car in front of me and tapped the brakes to start to slow down and that was enough to lock up, I was going to hit the car in front of me if I didn't do anything), switched lanes because of the lock up and luckily there was no one in the adjacent lane, but because things were so iced over, think like a hockey rink with water on top slick, I think slid into the soft shoulder, thankfully it was there, and then began to slide on the soft shoulder and was starting to careen right for a cedar bush. At a certain point I turned my car like 45 degree and just kinda had to wait out the slide as there was no regaining traction.

Thankfully I stopped before the bush, and casually pulled back into traffic. Keep in mind the slide and everything is happening while getting pounded with hail. Good times.

My 2023 BSOB with 2,300 miles was just in a hail storm, without washing and looking carefully I’m up to over 90 dents. A couple on the ledge (flat area) on the doors, directly by window. Nothing on the sides, no glass or lens damage. Most dents are on the hood and roof, one or two on the hatch upper surface. Another South Texas hail storm. Just makes me sick.
Have appointment with PDR shop tomorrow afternoon. ?

Hey guys, been awhile. I wanted to follow back up and close the loop on this one.

In short, my car is fixed up and looking brand new. If I could leave some advice to anyone who was in my situation: stay calm, be patient, and talk to a couple of different shops. Even after literally every body panel on my car needed repair, everything ended up looking great and flush. Take a breath, even if you have to go the conventional repair route, your car is still going to look just great (another piece of advice is to never listen to anyone on a forum, but that's neither here nor there).

After contacting multiple shops, I went with a smaller repair shop in the Houston area on a friend's recommendation. The shop is Refined Collision and the owner, Ali, was very knowledgable on hail repair and even spotted tiny dents that I couldn't, even after I had looked at the car 10 times over.

They (and I) initially wanted to go the PDR route, but after taking the car to a PDR shop in Houston, the PDR techs weren't confident that they'd be able to get most of the dents out based on their severity, location, and quantity. Several, if not most of the dents on my car had creased from the impact and a lot were in angled places on the vehicle that would be impossible to get right again.

Thus, conventional repair and part replacement was the route we took and while I was hesitant, I'm overall very happy with the results. We both agreed that no matter what, neither of us wanted to replace the roof on a unibody (even though insurance approved the costs to do so). Thus, I gave full blessing to body-filler the hell out of the roof even if the end result wasn't going to be as perfect as the rest of the car. In the end, the roof looks phenomenal. If you have a good eye for it, you could spot that it's been worked on by the most minor reflections in the paint but I'd say it looks like I have a brand new roof.

Total repair cost: $11,500(plus $250 to retint the windshield)
Total amount of dents: indeterminable. We counted the ones on my hood and it was over 300 on that panel alone
Replaced parts: Hood, rear liftgate, driver roof rail, windshield, third brake light
Repaired parts: Literally everything else. PDR on the less-severe ones, but bondo on most of the driver's side.
Painted parts: Entire car was repainted.
Repair time: 2 months
Satisfaction: achieved

I'm sure you are more than happy about getting your BS back.
Will the repairs show up on the title as branded or rebuilt, that would be my only hesitation about having so much work performed.
