20k miles on our 21 Badlands. We have the brake noise issue, (not a big deal) and are getting a rear seat belt monitor fault which we haven't had checked yet. Otherwise, it's been great! 27mpg average, interior cleans up well and it's reasonably comfortable. Windsheild seems to chip easy but I think that's pretty common with all new cars. I'm not a fan of the lane centering or the auto start so I turn those off, but my wife likes them both. It's a beast in the snow!
Hello! I have around 40k miles on my Sport Badlands. Just this week, I have had the rear belt monitor fault come up. It seems to be related to the driver's seatbelt, but of course it has happened right out of warranty. Did you resolve your alert? Thanks for tips! Only thing I've had it back to the dealer for is a rattle in the dash. They said they fixed it twice and it's back. It isn't terrible, but I'm not super pleased with their attitude about it. Overall, I love this vehicle. So comfortable and even with the 2.0 engine, I get around 28 mpg.

You have to disable the alert again. For whatever reason, it resets after a certain amount of time and you have to turn it off again.

Last night my wife told me she is in love with the BS Outer Banks

What's your experience in repairs? Are you satisfied or has it been a money pit?
Thanks in advance for your comments.
I've had my OB for 18 months and driven 14,000 miles. Just two oil changes; no other service. I love it. My only complaint is that the seat heaters are too hot to use.

It drives great and handles any weather or road conditions. It's very comfortable on a long drive. Tows like there's nothing back there. Nice tight turning circle but plenty of room for stuff.

Two bits of advice. Order it with the factory hitch kit because the add-ons, even at the dealer reduce the towing capacity. Also, order it with the Cargo Management shelf. For $125 it has a ton of utility, and you can't add it later.

If you are worried about service get the Ford ESP warranty. You can find them on-line for a great price. I think I paid $2,400 for 8 year/125K miles of the most comprehensive coverage.

For the slightly more money, the Outer Banks is the way to go. It almost feels like a luxury car with many better details over the Big Bend beyond the few things they list.

Yes. The low setting on the OB is about the same as high was on my Subaru Crosstrek and hotter than my Girlfriends CRV on high.

Dealer says that it is in spec, but we can't use them.
Wow. I usually turn mine on high for the first 5 minutes, but then I can turn it down to 2 or 3 and leave it on. And we have the cloth seats, which generally do not insulate from the heat as much as leather.

I have not asked the dealer to look at the seat belt monitor issue yet.

Even on the lowest setting?
We only have them turn on when the car auto starts.. Then they get shut off. Way too hot even on low and I have the cloth seats as well. I might think different in a week or tow when it gets to 20 below but above zero, they are too warm for us even on low.

Did the OP score a BS yet?
There is enough info in this thread to make a decision one way or another.

You've had the car for two years and put 37,000 on it, thats kind wild.
Why? I’ve had mine 8 months and have 11,000 on it. It’s a pleasure to drive. I get compliments on it wherever I go. It’s great on gas (after a F150 super crew with a V8) and far cheaper to drive 1200 miles to my mom then to fly, rent a car and pay for parking at the airport. I plan to put at least another 2500 on it in the new year.

I had mine go off once. I had the back seat down and when I put it back up the seat belt was caught up in the latch. Once I fixed that, no more warning. Just a thought.

I had mine go off for the same reason, and fixed it the same way.

Last night my wife told me she is in love with the BS Outer Banks and wants to go car shopping this weekend. I'm good with that. I'm retiring next year and will no longer have a commutes to Dallas. I did some initial checking and found the following...
  • Consumer reports downgraded the BS and no longer recommends it. In their annual survey the 'trouble spots' were Body Integrity 1/5, Brakes 1/5, and Engine Major 2/5. The rest of the categories did really well and ranked 5/5.
  • The Ford recall makes me a bit nervous.
What's your experience in repairs? Are you satisfied or has it been a money pit?

No repairs. It’s been in for scheduled oil change at 5000 and is going in next week for another. My only brake issue is they’re kind of loud when backing, but only when cold. Once I start moving, no noise. If you decide to order, I suggest getting the 235 tires. I personally wanted the Outer Banks, but ordered the Badlands for the 4 cylinder and the moonroof. When I ordered the computer would not allow the moonroof to be added to any other model. Love ❤? this vehicle. I don’t have to climb up into it and I don’t have to climb up out of it.
