You had better luck than most getting the panel so quickly. Mine has supposedly been ordered for a month now...A few days ago, my dealer ordered the "under dash" panel under warranty. I picked it up and installed it today. So far they are standing their ground on the engine cover and rear tow hook, stating that Ford claims they are not part of the build.
Near as I can tell, no one has gotten the engine cover under warranty. It seems that it really was quietly discontinued. AFAIK, those plastic engine covers (in general, all cars) are typically just cosmetic. Maybe the mfrs had 'focus groups' that told them all of the wires; hoses; and sensors were "unsightly". Who knows? In any case, if ours had one and it ever had to be removed for maintenance, it would end up on a shelf in the garage. Bottom line -- if it is supposed to be installed, I want it -- but if it was truly discontinued then I won't miss it. That said, I understand that some people do like the appearance and they have been willing to pay for the cover.
On the rear tow hook, I'm guessing you're referring to what Ford calls the "towing eye"? Do you have the tow package (hitch)? If not then as you know, your BL has a threaded hole for a tow eye and you should have one. In fact, page 265 of the owner's manual states:
"You MUST carry the towing eye in your vehicle at all times."
The manual goes on to talk about the "front recovery hooks." They're good to have, but that doesn't help in many situations. If you're nose down in the mud, how do you get out? If you're hanging off a guard rail by your rear tires how are they going to pull you back?
It can be done of course, but why not have a proper recovery point? Ford sure thinks it's important:
"You MUST carry the towing eye in your vehicle at all times."
OK then, supply one.
