I am a huge fan of the OE Falken Wildpeak AT3's. Quiet, comfortable ride, excellent traction in all conditions including snow. They wore evenly for 40,000 miles with some meat left.

When I replaced them, I tried the new AT4W's in the stock Badlands size. They are a heavier tire with a stiffer sidewall and the ride quality reflects that. I have them underinflated at 30 PSI to try to soften the ride, but it's made little difference. My dashboard average MPG has dropped from about 23.5 to 21.5. Small potholes and expansion gaps are much more harsh.

I understand the OE tires are likely a different spec than what is sold aftermarket, so maybe an aftermarket AT3 handles similarly to the AT4.

If I was spending more time off road, all of this would be moot. I accidentally curbed a rear tire on a narrow street and it didn't even leave a mark, and I have confidence that the traction is at least as good as the AT3's. I'm looking forward to putting them in snow.

Underinflating is only going to worsen the mileage more. I know I'm not getting AT4's at tire time, but I am going to see what Ford is putting on at the factory when I need new tires and maybe the local Ford shop can get those in or else Discount Tire might be able to source OEM stuff.

There is no difference between the OEM and aftermarket AT3 in 235/65/17. That size was made for Ford and so all of them in that size are the same. However, other sizes in AT3 are different construction.

What you are describing is just what happens when you step up to a heavier and stiffer tire. I purposely "downgraded" from Toyo OC AT3 245's to Falken AT3 235's when it was time to replace them because I wanted to regain some acceleration from a lighter tire as I put I high number of highway miles on my BS from road trips.

I’ll have to say, I love my Falken AT3w’s. Sounds like Ford is going to be using Goodyear Territories now as the “big” tire for 2025. I’d expect them to be similar in weight and ride to the current OEM 235/65-17’s. We’ll have to see when they show up on Tire Rack/Discount Tire.

Watch the side by side comparison between Falken AT3’s and Falken AT4’s. 3’s should be better for rain, ice, and snow. I put AT3’s on my Maverick's FX4 and my Bronco Sport Badlands. Love these tires!!!

I swapped out the Continental street tires the first week I bought my used BB. The price was right on the BF Goodrich Trails (235/65's). If I wanted a cushy ride and high mpg, I would have bought a Prius! I have to wonder about the 23 mpg your getting though. My city is around 27-28, highway I've gotten 35 (normal mode). Then again, I installed a Peddle Max (so I'm not mashing the throttle just to get out of my own way), a flowmaster Flow FX muffler and an afe intake box.

I imagine when I install a lift kit, my highway milage might drop a tad, and the added weight of steel skids I'm planning to install, may affect overall milage as well. Social Security only goes so far these days, those mods are planned for the upcoming spring.

He’s driving a BL so it’s going to get less mpg than what you are.

It appears the AT3W is discontinued, at least in the Badlands size. Get em before they're gone.
Oh no! Glad I got them for my Big Bend. The AT3s absolutely transformed the vehicle. The stock Continentals were positively junk.

I like my AT3Ws, too. What is the OEM replacement (looks like some have said it’s a Goodyear?) and, if anyone has them, are they good?

For reference, Our 24 BL, without additional off road package, came with Pirelli Scorpion ATRs 225/65 R17 102H M+S.

No complaints. Haven't had them in mud but they handled snow ice, as well as any tire I've owned. The ride is fine, as is the road noise. The engine is still breaking in, so mileage is climbing from 20.7, to now, 22.7mpg.

I had the same Pirelli tires. Got almost 26k miles out of them before they needed replacing (even with proper tire rotation every 5k miles). Had a 4-wheel alignment after getting the replacement tires and was close to factory specs so alignment wasn’t an issue.

Thanks, I'll keep an eye on that.
