I just made my first long trip…. WOAH

43.3 MPG for 372 miles in 7:13.5 hours !!!

I peaked at 44.0 MPG - before getting stuck in stop and go traffic for ten minutes.

Range on a tank estimated at 670 Miles !!!

I still have 1/2 a tank left. Almost enough to make the return trip without refueling.

I was expecting 28 MPG Highway and 25 MPG city.

Mileage mania...or conceding some mileage in order to maintain the flow of traffic on the interstate. It's usually one or the other. Whatever floats your boat, dude.

A couple of questions:

  1. How fast were you driving?
  2. What was the wind speed and direction?

A couple of questions:

  1. How fast were you driving?
  2. What was the wind speed and direction?
1. Average speed for the entire trip was 52.3
(381 miles/7.28hours)
2. No hurricane assist from Milton!

other:
I10, so flat road.

Fuel source unknown.
1/4 tank regular unleaded added to tank.
Presume starting tank was the same.

Speed of the traffic. 55-65
Obviously better MPG at lower speeds, but gage maxes at 40 MPso could not tell.

on cruise control
In Econ mode

An hour 15 minutes into trip
63.7 miles done. So 50.3 avg (63.7/1.27)

Trip meter at 39.9 MPG.

cruise control in Econ mod at 60 MPH.

A couple more:
  1. What was your location on I10 and which direction were you driving?
  2. Have you computed your mileage by hand?
These cars are quite boxy, and as such are very sensitive to wind drag. Even at the low speeds you were driving the fuel economy you report is exceptional. I would not be surprised to find that you had a tailwind.

I also have a Bronco Sport in Heritage trim with the 1.5l 3-banger in it. I've never come close to that mileage on an extended trip and i really don't get on it that hard... I had a 4+ hour trip late summer. Eco mode... drove it with a very soft pedal, in an attempt to see what sort of mileage i could get and it was just shy of 35 mpg. I'm in New England so it is fairly hilly when not on the highway and even on the highway we can get some decent grades.

My "normal" drive consists of back and forth to work 6 days a week (no highway driving) with an occasional stint on the highway if going out with my wife, or over the weekend. I never see more than about 27/28 mpg per tank. Occasionally, It can dip into 25/26 mpg per tank. No idea why. My travel habits and driving style are very consistent so, i can't quite work that out.

Keep on doing what you're doing!

EDIT: I should mention that the numbers above are calculated by the computer. When i calculate manually, after each fill up, the mileage can be between 1 and 1.5 mpg lower.

Awesome readings, however there is more to it. As mentioned having a good tailwind really helps. Judging from your numbers I'm guessing you had a good tailwind. Secondly; have you adjusted your "Fuel Bias"? The factory settings are notoriously off by as much as 20%. To do this you will need to hand calculate a mininum of three full tanks of fuel to get your true mpg. After that adjust your fuel bias setting. I found that your one tank numbers are doable given the right conditions. But realistically it is the long-term average that counts although getting one trip averages like that are nice.

yup I quite commenly get 35mpg, but that is traveling at 75mph in the mountians. I did have the opertunity to do some different speed trials on flatish land, and at 65mph I got 36mpg. 37mpg at 60mph and at 55mph I got 41mpg. I was gustimating at 50mph I would be up a couple more MPG.

I get that kind of mileage, too. When I'm leaving Colorado and losing elevation. Color me a skeptic. What is your average mileage for life of the vehicle.

LOL. I am very skeptical too ! That is why I am asking.

if it seems to good to be true, it probably is.

Can’t speak to the previous owner. I have done 14 hours and 515 miles. The computer average is 37.6 MPG. But that is elevated by the recent 7 hour trip at 43.3 MPG

So far I have only added about a 1/4 tank.Topped it up just before I started this trip.

I think the gas tank is 16 gallons(?) got 1/2 a tank left. So burned roughly 8 gallons on the trip. So 355 divided by 8 is about 45.6 (plus or minus 5). So the computer seems about right.

  1. Have you computed your mileage by hand?
Manual calculation:
Fillup: 9.216 gallons regular unleaded with 10% ethanol.

MPG: 381 / 9.216 gal = 41.3 MPG

Hmm, I neglected to add the few miles to the gas station. Small error. The larger error is the amount of gas.

Wow, you must have gotten a Bronco Sport body on a Maverick Hybrid chassis.

I've seen that kind of mileage on the instant MPG read out but my typical average MPG is half that with my Badlands.

Yup, I’ll bet that you’ll find all Badlands/First Edition/Heritage Limited getting half to two-thirds the mpg of the other models. 2.0l‘s extra oomph, and right foot using that oomph requires fuel. My best in my BL is in low 30’s, and that’s under ideal conditions.
