2023 OuterBanks 1.5L. Has 38K miles. Just got home from a 520 mile roadtrip. 2 days later, deader than a doornail. Jumped it and started right up. Hooked up my scan tool and was at 11.59 volts. Decided to pull the battery for replacement and was surprised to see a Enhanced Flooded Battery. I was under the impression it would be an AGM due to the auto stop start. Decided I would replace it with an AGM and use Forscan to change the battery type and reset the BMS. Low and behold, the battery type was already set to AGM. I am the second owner, so who knows what was done the previous 34K. Thoughts.

Found the thread discussing this, very interesting. I wonder if all these battery issues, premature failures and the such are because Ford left the BCM type as AGM when they used a EFB battery????

You can do either a manual BMS reset or reconfiguration via FORScan

Battery Sensor Reset (Battery Management System (BMS) Reset):

When you install a new battery, reset the battery sensor by doing the following:

1. Switch ignition on, and leave the engine off.
Note: Complete Steps 2 & 3 within 10 seconds.
2. Flash the high beam headlamps five times, ending with the high beams off.
3. Press and release the brake pedal 3 times.
The battery warning lamp flashes 3 times to confirm that the reset is successful.

My 21 Sport came with a standard FoMoCo lead acid battery which caused a number of electrical issues. I don't know how the BMS was set but I did try the procedure Dude posted early on and it didnt change anything.
The battery was replaced under warranty with a Motorcraft AGM, I've not had any battery related problems since replacement.

FWIW the 2023 BS BB I had and bought brand new in December of 2023 had the EFB battery in it!! I was afraid many times in the cold weather it wasn't going to start so I hooked a charger up over night sometimes which you shouldn't have to do!! But it was never dead when I did that and traded it in last Year for a 2025 XLT AWD Maverick with the 2.0 EB that came with the AGM Battery!!

I also have an EFB battery installed, and the AGM parameter was also set in Forscan. Changed it to EFB.

I did read your post and I stated “ You can do either a manual BMS reset or reconfiguration via FORScan “ and at that point whether you switch from EFB to AGM Battery or from AGM Battery to EFB all is good whether or not you later go check and see “the wrong battery type” reflected in one or more modules using FORScan

I have not seen it written down anywhere other than it is documented by Ford in the owners manual to use the BMS Reset Procedure after changing the battery which includes changing battery types

I am in disbelieve that FORScan would mandatory when switching battery types but unless we all see it in writing from Ford Corporate that’s differs from the owners manual in this case, I’ll stick to my opinion.

I love the Maverick and should have got one when I got the BS BB but wasn't thinking since I always had trucks before the BS.The BS BB had other issues than the battery with only 6,600 miles on it. I took advantage of the Ford Employee Pricing and got the Maverick last April for like $13.00 a month more than the BS BB was and the Maverick insurance was cheaper than the BS!! I'm very happy with the Maverick and don't miss the BS at all the only thing the BS had that the Maverick doesn't and I miss is BLISS!!

Well had I done a manual BMS reset and not via Forscan I would have never known that Ford had the wrong battery type programmed in the BCM.

Only thing I dislike about Mavericks are the interiors on a majority of their trims. I dont like the blue hues they use and would love a LOBO, but that lime and turquoise stitching....so I was pretty much set on a Lariat.

My point is no one knows what that battery type parameter in one or more modules - visible when using FORScan - actually does. Perhaps nothing.

There is only 1 module in Forscan to change the battery type. I just changed my daughters AGM in her 17 Fusion, original battery. My EFB lasted under 3 years..... There are numerous reports of early failed EFB batteries, issues with electronics due to the battery, etc on this site. My OPINION is due to Ford putting in EFB batteries (well documented supplier shortage of AGM batteries) into Sports that the computer programming showed should have an AGM.

that didn't work for me when I tried it, I had to use forscan. it is also the same precedure for the escape and the edge, it worked in the kids escape but not in the edge. so I found it pretty hit and miss.
