This is a red herring. There are certainly better options out there is you want better fuel economy, but we are talking about the Bronco Sport lineup, not other vehicles. What if you've decided on a Bronco Sport AND fuel economy is at the top of your list of priorities. Is the 2.0L an upgrade in that situation?

I guess this is subjective. I've driven both as well, and I found the non-BL trims much more stable and sure-footed. I believe this is due mainly to the fact non-BL trims have shorter, stiffer springs, lowering the vehicle's center of gravity and reducing body roll in corners.
I can agree with you on the non BL handling very good i think my BS BB handles pretty very well taking corners.

yep the 1.5 is fairly efficient !! I was really hoping Ford was going to get the 2.5 hybrid added to the line up….i am likely replacing my Sport with a hybrid AWD Maverick
I looked at the maverick when I was looking to replace my fusion. figured with a nice tonneau cover it could work for space for my hockey gear, but it wasn't all wheel drive and didn't get as good fuel milage. the hybrid is great if most of your driving is in town, but 99% of mine is at 60mph+

plus I already have a truck, not that we can call the maverick a truck but you know what I mean

Part time adventurer here with a 22 badlands currently sitting at 53297 miles. I have had 0 issues with it. I drove all the trims and the 1.5 versions were not going to work for my lifestyle and how I use a vehicle. The Badlands is more than an engine upgrade. Drive them both then decide.

Since you said that off-roading won't be a too frequent occurrence, I'd say just go for the Outer Banks. I have one and it has been perfect for me, and I do occasionally take it on loose gravel roads with 0 issues. But if you aren't pressed for money and wanna spend a few more grand, definitely go for the badlands.
"a few grand" could be a lot of mods if you're so inclined. My 21 BB has conquered every situation I threw at the rig
