Looking to get good winter rated tires for my Big Bend...looking to keep the original size as I'm pretty happy with the ride and mileage on the ProContacts, but have heard that they're not so great in the snow. Prolly will go thru this winter as I'm only at 9K.
Noticing a big difference in some tire weights...Bridgestone weatherpeak is only 23#(???) whereas most others range around 29-31#. Michelin X-ice-snow SUV is 27.9#. Wouid these two tires be noticably more vulnerable for light offroading?
Looking also at the Cooper Dicoveror road trail AT and discoverer enduramax.

We have no experience with the tires you mention.
We have been totally satisfied with Bridgestone Blizzaks, stock size, on our 2021 Big Bend for winter tires. We also had them on our 2014 Ford Explorer.

We usually have extreme snow here in NW Pennsylvania, though last year we hardly needed the Blizzaks. But, we're ready should we have a normal winter this year!

We now run Vredestein as our touring tires.
Good luck in your search...

I'm a fanboy for the Goodrich Trail Terrain. Had them on my 18 F150. Really liked them so put them on my Sport at 3600 km. We're on an acreage so some gravel but here in Sask. Canada we get some severe winter driving. They really shine once we get into the crappy icy, rutted city streets. Never had to use the Goat modes yet.

I can confirm that the OEM Continental ProContacts have extremely weak sidewalls. They did well in the rain, but the tread design and depth looks like it would be awful in snow. After replacing the Continentals with Falken Wildpeak AT3W s, the difference was amazing. I'm certain you'll find that the ProContacts are actually pretty noisy (especially when hitting those alert ribs in the pavement sides). The AT3Ws handle far better; they feel planted. It's my understanding that the FALKEN 235/65R17s were actually built on Ford specs for the Original Edition Bronco Sport (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

I'm a huge BF Goodrich K02 fanboy. I've had them on several vehicles, including my current F-150. I just received my K02's for my 2023 Big Bend, and hope to have them put on tomorrow. 225-65/17 (stock size). K03's in that size will not be released until next year, they say. I'll post some photos when I have them put on.

Unfortunately, Falken discontinued the AT3Ws and the replacement AT4W, in the size for the Bronco Sport (235/65/17) is 9 pounds heavier per tire! For 2025, the Bronco Sport Badlands and Outer Banks AT tire option (only available with the Sasquatch options package), is a Goodyear Territory RT - a new model from Goodyear.

So the rumors are true. Dang. But you still can get them while there still is inventory, at good prices. You're right - the AT4Ws appear to be heavy for the little Bronco Sport.

I’m sure these tires have different specs (depending on what where the spec is found) but the specs I’ve used show a 7.2lb delta which isn’t far off from the 9 you quoted.

Falken Wildpeak AT3w 235/65R17 OEM (Bronco Sport optional tire)
Tire weight (lbs) 31

FALKEN WILDPEAK A/T4W 235/65R17
Item number 28841790
Tire weight (lbs) 38.2

OEM Pirelli 225/65R17 vs FALKEN WILDPEAK A/T4W 235/65R17
Weight 25.22 lbs vs 38.2 lbs (+13 lbs per tire)
Diameter 28.5” vs 29” (+1.8%)
Width 8.9” vs 9.3” (+4.5%)
Sidewall 5.8” vs 6” (3.4%)
Circum. 89.5” vs 91.1” (+1.8%)
Revs/Mile 708 vs 695 (-13)

Thanks for correcting me. I should have checked my notes.

a tire I have been told to look at by my tire shop is the Cooper Discoverer® Road+Trail™ AT . they say this tire will blow the falcons out of the water and is probably one of the best affordable replacements you can get. anyone using them?

The K02s have a definite highway hum to them. Mine are also LT’s, so they are stiff. Those things don’t bother me, and I go function over comfort…BUT, I would definitely caution anyone who would be sensitive to that, or has a spouse who would be.
Here are some photos. Stock Big Bend, stock K02’s (225/65-17).
