Those are genius. However a couple decades before age 80 I have gone to having my modern vehicles serviced at the dealer. I am a "car guy" and have a floor jacked and jack stands for the classic cars when needed. Just feel I can find other things to do in retirement like taking the dog for a hike etc.

Here are the USA made jack stands I do use on those occasions - best ever.

Nice trail, and cute dog!

I understand where you're coming from. When I was younger I laid out in the dirt and gravel working on cars and dreamed of having a nice garage. Now I have one and I'm not as interested in doing mechanical work.

Those stands you linked to look good, but they are pricy at $275/pair. No worries though.

It's too bad the BS doesn't have a central jacking point. As I mentioned in an earlier post, all of our other cars do/did and that made it very easy -- jack it up once and put the stands in place.

Sounds good! I didn't realize they are made in America -- that's great, and hard to find.

It's not that *everything* made in China is garbage, but much of it is. The inverse is true with products made in the USA -- most are good, but of course there is some junk.

<Later> I just checked the Amazon link (above) and it appears they are made in China:

Of course, as I said, that does not necessarily mean they are poor quality. I like like the basic design. Even though I have a 2-post lift in my garage, I'd like to have something like those ramps -- but I would want to see more than 4 reviews before buying, unless they were made by an established company with a good reputation.

One thought, regardless of where they are made, is that manual bottle jacks can be tedious. Pneumatic ones are much easier to use (but more $ of course). For occasional use manual jacks are OK.

At about -23 seconds in the short video on the Amazon page, a vehicle is shown rolling onto the platform, which tips forward significantly. That's to be expected since the only support is the jack in the center, but it doesn't look good.

They may be fine. I tend to be pretty critical.

On the jack stands, while I think ramps would work better for the uses you mentioned, the stands shown in the video above do have a max height of over 16", and of course the front end would be even higher. Here's an illustration with dimensions:

I stand corrected. I don't know why I thought they are American made. I already have them ordered from Amazon, so I'll keep them. They will work fine for my garden tractor, snow blower, and pressure washer. I didn't realize those jack stands you suggested went so high. I'm 80 years old and have to decide how many more times I'll be changing the oil on my OBX before I commit another $300 for them. I only drive it about 4000 miles a year because I have a Kymco scooter I ride in good weather. Thanks again for all your helpful information.

You're welcome!

4,000 miles/year is more than we put on ours!

As I said, I think ramps would work better for the uses you mentioned, but I do think the design of those jack stands is slick (for those who can make good use of them).

Those ramps will probably be fine. One thing I'd suggest is getting a couple rubber mats to set them on. I know from experience that ramps like that will slide and can cause damage. As long as they are on a non-slick surface they're fine.

When I'm doing an oil change, I have a rubber pad on my jack and put it under the subframe and jack the whole front end up at once, then put the jack stands in place and drop it down. Of course, this is on the 2.0L, so I don't know if the same thing is available for the 1.5L. I know you have a BL, so I'm just stating that it could be different for others.

That's very helpful, thank you!

I've done 2 oil changes on the Badlands so far and didn't see anyplace that looked like a solid central jacking point. I'll have to look closer.

I could put it on the lift to better inspect it. So far I've used ramps because our RV is parked in the center of the garage where the lift is, and it's a bit of a production getting it out.

He posted a pic of that Badlands central location and I think maybe Mark S did as well or commented on that post - was awhile ago but you might try searching for his posts

I went through the first thread you linked to. The illustration in post #2 is good -- it shows the standard lifting points -- but nothing else.

In post #163 in the 2nd thread is exactly what I was looking for!

Check out this video. I will fabricate these wood blocks to prevent slipping. Problem solved.

Here's how I get jack stands under my Badlands. Note that this won't work for other trims that lack the skid plate. Spreading the jacking force across the skid plate prevents damage. You can lift more than high enough with a 2X6 to get jack stands under the normal left and right jack points. A piece of 4X4 lumber would allow you to jack the vehicle even higher. The last photo shows the skid plate after the job, just to prove it causes no damage.

Mark, don't know if you feel these are necessary but may be a little more protection for the pinch welds. I use the round ones shown in the ad for my hydraulic jack when rotating tires.

I'm sure they don't hurt anything. Are they necessary? The provided scissor jack uses a metal pad, so I don't think the pinch welds at the jack points are in danger of getting damaged. Then again, metal-to-metal will almost certainly take off some paint, increasing the likelihood of corrosion. Could be a good investment. :like:
