The perfect BS to me

It would undoubtedly be an OBX with a 2.0L. Having owned a '23 OBX with the 1.5L, I can tell you that the 2.0L is so much more exhilarating to drive and trustworthy, IMO. The Badlands I own is great, but I don't need the off-road stuff. My BS won't see a dirt road. That said, I do love the Badlands. Especially with the color combo I wanted and couldn't get back in '23. A very popular color at that time. I remember seeing a cactus gray OBX at a dealer in Charlotte, NC with a $10K market adjustment and $1500 in overpriced dealer accessories. I shopped away from the Charlotte area and picked up an OBX for $400 under sticker with added dealer accessories but not in Cactus gray. A weird buying ripoff time back then.

You make very good points. Perhaps take your Badlands off road, nothing crazy just some dirt roads … who knows perhaps the Badlands will impress you in ways you don’t know yet. As an added bonus, cleaning your vehicle will bring back memories of the off road trip. Let go of the OBX thoughts and create new adventures. Just my thoughts.

The funny thing is I'm too OCD to go off road. I'm retired so my BS doesn't even see rain. Differences to me with an OBX. On one hand the Badlands has a full size spare, beefed up suspension for handling any bumps, the badge and most importantly, the 2.0L. What I like about the OBX is the larger 18" wheels, slightly better ride, carpeting, and cheaper cost when comparably equipped. However, a 2.0L option would cost more.
Look, the difference is really minimal, as I love the Badlands. A 9.5 to a 9.25.

Agree. Unfortunately an OBX with the 2.0L is never going to happen. Manufacturers are pushing smaller engines to increase their overall CAFE fuel economy numbers. I probably would have bought an OBX if the 2.0L engine was an option. I also do not need all of the additional off-road upgrades.

In addition to the additional power of the 2'0L it is also a quieter engine. When test driving my Badlands the sales person commented that he couldn't believe how quiet the car was. He did not get an opportunity to drive in many badlands as they were scarce at the time.

You could probably post on your your local Facebook marketplace and find someone with an OBX or Maverick that is looking to trade their stock 18in wheels for your BL wheels if you really wanted them. Would be a cheap/free way to go about it if you wanted a bigger wheel. Add in the carpeted floor mats if you haven't already and you're getting closer to your 2.0L OBX dream car scenario.

The OBX 2.0L thing is just a thought. I do love the Badlands. I went with black Ford Performance wheels on my OBX. If I ever decide to do it again, I may go the tire route but probably not. The carpet thing isn't a big deal. Actually neither is the ride quality and tire noise minor differences. I love the full size spare being included. The most important thing is the 2.0L which makes the Badlands great to me too.

I had the option of the BB I have and a BL, I just couldn't justify the difference in price. I do occasional trails and do see several days of serious snow. A "locker" although would have been nice, I haven't been in a situation where I would have needed it. As for the 1.5, with a tune and a PeddleMax, performance, specifically acceleration isn't an issue and it will smoke a stock 2.0 from a stop light.

I love the outdoors and hiking but zero interest in brining a car there.
Just need a box on wheels that is as engaging to drive as it is practical.
I don't really mind the 1.5 or smaller engines in general. As long as they keep the cars relatively light weight with good steering.

Even if you never "offroad" the car, don't discount the value and convenience of the simple Trac Control and 4WD lock buttons on the Badlands goat dial for on-road use. The dial just has presets on it but you don't have to use them all. I never understood the appeal of the 18" wheels, I like the higher sidewalls even around town on 'challenging' public-DoT potholed streets. Same for the ride; I prefer the stiffer suspension. Tons of little things too. The front camera is nice for tight parking and the rear seat storage is great for ice scrapers and gloves the rest of the year.
