If serious off-roaders turn up their noses at a capable sub-$40K off-roader like the Bronco Sport, how do you think they view the $223K Porsche Dakar? With its suspension set to "high mode" the Porsche Dakar features 7.5" of ground clearance, approach and breakover angles of 16.1 degrees and 19 degrees respectively, yet still laps the Nordschliefe in the same time as the Porsche 996 GT3.

And before you ask, no, this is not a joke. I guess the Germans felt the need to one-up Tesla in producing completely superfluous vehicles that make no economic sense.

That’s closer to a rally car setup I would think.
To get you to the ski resort in the Alps.
:,P
Skis on top,
Walls of plowed snow higher than the car on each side of the twisty switch back pass,
Sideways Drifter style all the way up!
Aw yeah Bavarian style.
I’ve been up there.
I miss it.
I drove Mercedes’ 43 passenger buses up there.
What you ask ?
Have I ever drifted a 43 passenger Mercedes Bus on the snow ?
There is no proof but yes on the Aircraft cargo loading area where my people parked the C- 141’s yep yep,
On purpose,
It was part of our training.
I drifted a Tractor Trailer at Minot .
Drifting my sport is child’s play.
Ok ok I’m done.

I never understood this segment and I'm a car enthusiast. There is a proper tool for every job, a Porsche in that configuration still isn't a proper tool. That's just going to be a city runner for some poser to get a thumbs up at cars and coffee. Will probably never get dirty. Ok grump off....

They did win the Dakar rally once...back in 1984 with the 953.

Its a toy for the very rich to enjoy taking to the store occasionally, much like a G-Wagon.

That said, I'd love it if youtubers took it rock crawling in Moab, I can hear them now...

This clearance simply isn't acceptable, I scraped going over this rock that can be easily cleared by a Bronco Raptor. I expected better from Porsche and expect many people to be disappointed with it as well...Porsche seemed to be focus on the on-road handling characteristics which has caused the Dakar theme to suffer...I'd like this car better if it had a detachable swingarm, lockers and at least 17in of clearance, then maybe I'd consider it something other than a softroader....

Maybe do what TFL does and put it on the rollers then go up some high mountain trail where they can talk about fuel economy (I like TFL btw, Roman seems cool, Tommy...bit of a twit)

Coming from VW Golf R, I have to disagree. A hot hatch with snow tires and all wheel drive is one of the funnest things to drive in the snow/ice. I even got to do a day driving around on a frozen lake in Georgetown, CO. Nothing like 50 mph drifting and no worries of hitting anything.

This Porsche is a going to the mountains car in the winter mostly but could also be used for dirt roads to get to MTB or hiking trails. The suspension is adjustable, so carve up the mountain pavement and then raise it so that you can cruise down the fire roads in the summer or ride above the snow that has yet to be plowed on the roads.

:’D why is it that everyone needs to Diss the Porsche ?
I mean, it’s not threatening anyones manliness by being able to go where most Porches can’t ?
It’s not competing with the Bronco Sports so no need to prove yours is better.
I dunno bout some of ya’all.
I do believe that rig would walk away from a Bronco Sport in snow covered mountain switchbacks and prolly do it drifting.
Porsche knows the market is changing and changing fast.
I like the fact that they are developing new stuff, good different stuff.
Because we all need more stuff !

Not really a diss, I love a Porsche. But Porsche releasing a $200+k offroader 911, eeehhhh pretty daft. That's all. Just my opinion.

only 2500 to be made...

and that's about right, this is a very specific use car..someone enjoys, and have the opportunity, of driving up on a groomed dirt twisty road, or snow covered path, to a ski resort/trail head or just for a fun cruise.

yes, I'm sure 2000 of them may not ever see dirt but if I have $250k to throw around, yeah sure, I'd like to have such car.

I think Porsche now can be qualify for Group A Rally with this car.

let me just buy a Toyota GR Yaris for the same purpose

Porsche making an off-road vehicle is like Jeep making a sports car. But, I'm biased. My old Porsche:
