I don't know why people don't read their owners manual, it answers all kinds of questions people typically ask, including yours.
The world has become inherently lazy. Let someone else do the work I will reap the benefits . Such it is.

I just did, for the 3rd time. Maybe my paper version is out of date but there is absolutely nothing in there explaining why sometimes it reads Speed Limit and sometimes the Speed word is gone. It feels like a bug. And I did turn it off but the manual says the system is always on.
Ah. Misunderstood you. The manual describes how to turn off the speed warning, which is what I though you meant.

I wonder if the "Speed Limit" vs "Limit" label has to do with the sign? The system uses a camera to look for speed limits signs. I believe some say "Speed Limit" and others just say "Limit." I wonder if that's what's happening?

I've thought that. Around here in Texas, I believe they all say Speed Limit.

To me, it almost feels like whatever is in the display is covering the Speed part. But then it stills draws the borders of the sign.

I'll start checking if it happens at certain spots. Maybe it has to do with how the navigation is pulling data?

Would help a lot if you took a couple pics and if needed a short clear video of what you mean.

Within the 1st 2 weeks of ownership I did turn off the intelligent aspect for the reasons you stated (25mph school zones for example).

I'll try to get some when the "Speed" is displayed. I just checked my pics and they're all missing the Speed part.

Yep that often happens with pics of changing displays so a very short clear non bouncing video likely will show better what you are seeing. Couple that with some added words in your posted message of what you prefer to have happen will go along way to promote understanding of what the issue is.

keep in mind some of us have Badlands and the displays are somewhat different from other models.

I have since turned it off. It's a nice system, although it would be great if it anticipated speed limit reductions before we hit the sign, especially if there's a State Trooper waiting right there.
If you use the Carplay, there are better apps for that. Some systems will even warn you about speed radar and red-light camera setups.

But a couple of times it picks up the feeder road limit signs and starts slowing me down on the highway. Or it'll pick up an inactive school zone sign.
Yeah, it's imperfect. Even the last post on this thread was about that. It's a rudimentary driving aid so the driver still has to pay attention because it just looks for signs without interpreting all the meanings.

I was looking up some posts a few days ago and came across some older threads. New, excited members. A few people started to interact with them. Then here came those, who I can only imagine, members that are paying for the bandwidth on the site and told them to either RTFM or reminded them that a thread was already posted on that subject, even though the new thread had a lot more information.

Guess what. That was their last post.
Imagine that, if in your initial post, it had half the detail this retort did...

Can't help too much with the LIMIT vs. SPEED LIMIT. It doesn't do that on my larger dash cluster, so maybe it is a compacting issue? Does it change depending on what screen you have displayed (e.g. Calm, MPG, TPMS, etc)? Try to find a pattern in the display. Sometimes the system uses NAV data or assumptions to post a speed, other times it visually sees a sign via the camera and puts it up. Does it start driving with LIMIT and only show the whole SPEED LIMIT when the camera has seen a sign? Or maybe it is a downright glitch. But likewise, I turned off the speed sign following because I don't need it and the inaccuracies it perceives.

Alright. It looks like when the speed limit first changes it has Speed Limit then it changes after about 10 seconds to Limit.

The type of sign has no impact. At least I don’t think so.

I recommend you take the short video but only if it is safe to do so. would like to see that Speed Limit 35 icon change to Limit 35.

Sure looks like a software defect however the defect starts out when Speed Limit 35 is displayed since in your pic that partially overlaps the “232 mi to E” in the center display then it seems like when that mileage info updates it displays on top of “Speed” which is why in your 2nd pic only the Limit 35 gets displayed and “Speed” is hidden. Perhaps you should report that to Ford by calling +1 (833) 389-0848 and provide all 3 pics.

It's probably programmed this way on purpose. The initial display is to get your attention, which is why it's larger. It then reverts to a smaller version to keep you informed without overlapping other displayed info. This is a pretty common strategy for visual display systems.

Geez, is there any expectations for drivers to have any intellegence in order to drive these days?

yep could be an attention getter or could be a software defect or the limit of the screen size in the center with all the mileage info. My vote is on a defect since it briefly overlaps other info. And the smaller “Limit” version does not happen on the Badlands which has the Speed Limit in a different part of the center screen. There is something intentional in the software causing this for the non Badlands models.

@davidg4781 The video is great and pretty wild how “SPEED LIMIT” becomes “LIMIT” for non-Badlands models.

In the video, you selected a different set of MPG parameters to be displayed than you did in the static pic you took earlier but I still think it is a software defect you have uncovered.

For purpose of illustration I took your earlier static pic and in the outlined red box is what I think is the area of the screen devoted to the display of MPG parameters. As you can see, “SPEED LIMIT” encroaches (just like in football) to the screen area devoted to the display of MPG parameters and in your static pic “SPEED” is on top of the “232 mi to E” therefore what I think is happening is when the MPG parameters are updated, the encroachment of “SPEED” is deleted and only “LIMIT” gets displayed.

I recommend you take your video and the pic below along with the explanation in this post and provide it directly to the Ford software development team via calling +1 (833) 389-0848 (Ford software customer service team) who will file a ticket for you and provide you an email to send all this information.

Note that I don’t recommend you contact a dealership because they really do not support resolution of software defects.

I copied Ford Motor Company on this post.

I'll pass that along.

I forgot to mention earlier that I tried it on different screens, even the Calm one, and the speed limit still did the same thing.
