The Badlands is a sleeper?

My Wife came home with a sly grin on her face yesterday, as she told me "I beat a Mustang".

The story goes, that she was at an intersection, where the lanes converged a short distance beyond. A Mustang pulls up next to her, revving its engine and jumping forward, looking over at her etc. She figured he wanted to get in front of her for the lane convergence and she was in just the sort of mood to disallow that. Or try to.

Said when the light changed, she hit the gas and it wasn't even close.

I asked if she'd switched to sport mode and she said it never even crossed her mind.

Now, not all Mustangs are bad asses but a good number of them are and that guy was acting like his was, so ...

Must have been an older one with a N/A 4 cylinder or V-6 or an older 5.0 Gt with an Automatic .

Car and Driver has the new 2.3 liter Ecoboost Mustang at 4.5 seconds 0-60 and the Badlands at 5.9 seconds 0-60. The Badlands is quick for what it is!

I think with my tuned 1.5, I believe that I could better that 5.9 0-60

Yesterday I got a chance to have fun with Sport mode again coming home from a day at the office. Since I was alone, i.e. no nagging from the occupant in the passenger seat about "you're driving too fast!", I was able to enjoy the trip....immensely. I know it's been said that the noise coming from the engine is enhanced through the sound system, but I don't care. The BS elicits a very nice throaty growl when digging deep into the go-go pedal. I got home and was asked why I was so happy. Hmmmm....my lips are sealed.

I use premium 93 Shell in my Badlands. It is badass! While those cars that think they are all as spinning, by BB grips and goes, that could explain it. So far 100%.

Had a focus ,escape and soon a bl bronco sport. They all had or will have 400 plus hp. Not sure how much the bronco will handle.But will find out.

Indeed. Can you give us details, specifically drivability and reliability? Were these daily drivers, or specifically for racing?

Getting 400 reliable and useable horsepower out of a 4cyl engine is difficult at best. Putting a bigger turbo on your EcoBoost engine and upping the boost pressure will certainly increase power output, but larger turbos take longer to spool up, so in most cases you lose all your low-end torque, which is one of the primary benefits of the EcoBoost series engines.

There is only a single manufacturer offering production car with a 400+ hp 4cyl that I know of. That's a telling data point.

My friend work for a company that starts with R I cant tell you the name because they told me not to. but that was years ago. . They had a prototype kit made for the focus according to them made little over 400 plus hp. Never really had it dino. Use the same kit on the escape. For tuning my friend is a engineer at fords.For reliability not sure.I put around 40,k in 6 years on them..
