Quick question to anyone that has done the springs and installed bigger tires. What did you do about the spare? Did you also purchase a larger spare to go with larger tires or do you just carry a plug kit and air compressor?
Even Ford doesn’t supply the same size spare when you upgrade the tire on the build. I replaced my 225-65/17 with a 235-65/17 and it still fits in the well without removing the isulation. What size tires are you thinking about going too?

Not really sure what the tire size will be at this point, was basically going to decide that once the springs are in place so I can have my tire guy let me know what will fit without rubbing. If one tire is a bit smaller/shorter (the spare) than the other three, won't it mess up the AWD system?

In theory but as I said in my post, Ford supplies a smaller spare from the factory. I think the expectation is you use it as a stop gap and not as a full time replacement.

By the way, the choice of springs will not impact what size tire you can use. It isn’t the limiting factor. The pinch weld is the limiting factor. Some have modified it to allow a larger tire but nobody really recommends doing that.

I have a 2.0” Eibach spring lift and I can confirm that it does not matter as far as tire size goes. I have been running 245/65 even before the lift and they do not rub lock to lock at all. Here is a pic of my Baby Bronco after the lift was installed.

I can tell you that a 235/70R17 (30" tall) doesn't quite fit in the spare well, even with the insulation taken out. It sits a couple of inches higher than normal. The bed cover still fits, but you lose a couple inches in cargo height. I may use a hitch rack to carry the spare.

I may keep one of my 235/65R17 tires for a spare. I need to check how it fits in the well. My guess is not too well, or it would have come with a full size.

I like the idea of two spares when I'm out in the boonies. I once poked a rock through the sidewall of a KO2 on my Jeep Liberty while hunting. For the rest of the trip I was worrying about another flat.

I carry an awesome Viair compresser, and a good plug kit when I'm out of town.

The 235/65-17 fits fine. The only issue is the threaded rod holding down the tire isn’t long enough with a spec wheel. I just designed and printed out a nut. You do need to use the upper cargo mat shelf but that was the same with the 225/65-17 spare.

Good to know, thanks. I turned my spare upside down for storage space, and had to get a shorter bolt.

My BSBB didn't come with a full size spare, just the stupid donut. Maybe I will need to get a full-sized spare if I go to a bigger tire. If I need to change, no point in buying a bigger donut.
