Stop / Start feature rarely engages

Again I ask....are there any cases that have been documented that indicate what you are saying?

Don't get me wrong; I'm not a fan of the feature either, which is why I disable it when I start my Bronco. The few times I forget, the engine immediately starts when my foot comes off the brake prior to pressing the go pedal.

But I do not fault the feature for what it is intended to do: it allows auto manufacturers on a wide margin to help meet EPA fuel mileage requirements. Small savings to an individual, but adds up for fleet savings.

There are case documented with NHTSA for Recall 24S24 - Bronco Sport died and would not restart after the auto-start-stop event

Occurred at various places, most often at stop lights or stop signs but could be anywhere and anytime the auto-start-stop shut off the engine and vehicle would then not start

Super dangerous thus the need for Recall 24S24

Does the issue continue to happen after Recall 24S24? There are (unconfirmed) reports of that.

Try driving in California with this feature. The signals are long enough the auto start engages before the light changes. At those rare lights that are shorter, you’ll be honked at while waiting for your restart. Just a royal pain. I’ll stick with my ASS Eliminator.

I drive everyday in the Southern California on the the streets with the Auto/Stop on with no problems. As soon as I release the brake the engine starts , no delay,

Lucky you. Around Seal Beach/Cypress/Los Alamitos my BS was restarting halfway through the signals. I tried a little test to see if it was me. It wasn’t. I’m still getting 26 mpg in town and 28+ on the freeway (when not stuck in L.A. traffic). Here in WA, I get the same or better, depending on the time of year and the blend that’s being sold. Still so much better than what I was getting in my F150.

If you noticed I live in Long Beach so those areas you mention I drive around almost every day. The Start/Stop works fine for me. Maybe have yours checked out next time you take your Bronco Sport in for service.

I have taken it back to the dealership and they said it works “intermittently” based on several factors, such as battery strength, electrical usage used for heated seats, and heat on may cause this option not to work, by saving the charge in the battery.

Has anyone else experienced this useless option?

I have 23 bronco that’s the same. It’s based on certain requirements battery /temp etc

I noticed. That’s why I listed mine. Seal Beach is my vacation area. It’s also near where I grew up. Happy the ASS works well for you. All it does for me is raise my blood pressure, so I’ll keep it off. Happy driving.

Next time you are in the area PM me. We can meet up to so you can see how my A/S works. However, I am surprise you vacation away from the NorthWest as I have enjoyed that part of the world when I have been there.

I love the PNW, but I’m getting too old to appreciate the weather. Overnight low in Seal Beach was 44°. My high yesterday was 49°. My lungs can’t take it this time of year. I have a lovely 2 bedroom in Leisure World. Perfect for leaving rain and possible snow behind, where I can actually breathe. Also have family and friends all over Orange County. Long Beach, hum, I lived on First many years ago and my aunt lived in Naples. Met my husband at Long Beach Naval Station, before it became a dirt lot. I’ll probably end up moving back eventually. It’s just a big hassle to make that hind of move by myself. Have to rope in the cousins (under 20 boys with lots of energy). ?
