Here you go.

Starter motors and electrical systems are SUPPOSED to be engineered to handle the additional wear & tear imposed by the Start/Stop system. Many have reported issues with the OEM battery, the first symptom of which is often reported as the Start/Stop system not working. A new, more powerful battery seems to have fixed the issue for everyone reporting it.
Somehow I knew you would be able to provide such in depth analysis. Gotta go now, my head just exploded.?

The BS is the 2nd vehicle I’ve owned with this feature. Ford has done some things that help me keep it turned on sometimes- like adjusting the blower level down significantly. My Jeep will keep blasting full speed during a stop event, which depending on the outside conditions, will make a sudden change in temperature in the cab and usually results in the engine turning back on quickly. For the record, 5 years and 85k miles on the Jeep and no starter related issues, so I am inclined to believe they’ve engineered starters to handle the increased usage.

I also read when this feature was first rolling out it would have negligible impact on MPG but supposedly help decrease idle emissions. ?‍♂

The Auto Start/Stop Eliminator was the first mod I did to my OB. I had occasion to use this feature in a rental car prior to my Bronco Sport purchase. I hated it. I read somewhere that Ford said that the starter motor was made more robustly, so that it wouldn’t wear out from using the start stop. All that told me was that the start stop did indeed add wear and tear to the starter from the constant use. Add the extra battery cycling, and keeping the start/stop functional is a big fat No. I still have the option of using it if gas prices become alarmingly high, but until then, the start/stop stays off.

The issue of wear and tear to a starter was addressed in another thread on this subject. Ford uses a robust starter, so no worries on that giving out. If you have a bad memory and forget to disable it after starting the car (or anytime after it does its first stop/start), spend 90 bucks and eliminate the feature.

With the AS/S Eliminator installed, the system acts like you pushed the button manually (the message comes up on the screen). Personally, I don't think it's a "void the warranty" issue and I'm not worried about it anyway (not sure what kind of failure it could induce). Cheers!
Thanks , but not so much what that would induce., maybe nothing. But if something else failed, could/ would they come back and say you had this installed on you BS which in turn caused such and such? If they can fine a way to blame you, I am sure they would.

Wasting nonrenewable resources and polluting the planet bothers me a lot. Especially when i am just sitting in the car waiting for a light to change.
My old car didn't have this feature and I would manually shut off the car if I knew it will be a long wait. Maybe that's a bit unusual.

If they could reference a disablement of a start/stop feature to say, the exhaust or rear tail light failure, I'd break up laughing!

If they could prove that the AS/S device caused a failure as opposed to someone that religiously pushes the button everytime would not, good for them! Being a retired engineer, I would welcome that challenge (if it happened). Cheers!

I remember as a teen replacing starter motors on cars, a comment failure in 60’s and 70’s model cars. It’s my understanding that the alternator (which is like a backwards motor) serves as the starter motor, driving the engine via the serpentine belt. No more bendix mechanisms to engage the starter motor gear onto the flywheel. Also, those starter motors were heavy! With all my start on go driving and sitting at red lights, I’m thrilled my engine shuts down. When your engine is running and your not moving your miles per gallon is zero.
My Ford Expedition with 83k miles have had no issues with the starting system or the auto stop/start feature.
Sharing an experience, perhaps 8 years ago I had a rental car (Chevy Malibu) and I freaked when the engine shut off at a red light. I had never heard of this functionality before.
Seems like a lot of people do it care for this feature. Noting wrong with different opinions/experiences.

Or spend $2 to do the same with a nightlight in the AC outlet. :)

Well then:

I can spend $90.00 to buy an OBD II jumper type cable with memory that has me unplugging the stock OBD cable and plugging in their cable. Or, I can take less that 5 seconds and plug in a cheap, under $5.00 kiddy bathroom night light in the back A/C outlet? Hmmm, which do I go with?
