Squeaky Rear Brakes

I have a 2022 Bronco Sport Big Bend that I bought in June 2022. Since October 2023 I have had a severe brake issue when using them in reverse mode. I've had it serviced at 2 different Ford dealerships, was told that it was fixed and when I got home the brakes were squealing worse than ever. Just recently I found a "Ford authorized mechanic" and took my truck to his shop. He basically did the same routine as the dealerships with the exception that he applied dome " Stop Squeak" grease to my brake pads. My truck is still under the 36,000/ 3 year bumper to bumper warranty but because the last place I took it for repair doesn't do warranty work I was stuck paying $293 for the repair. I called Ford Motor Company and they're refusing to reimburse me. I was told by the business that this fix is just a temporary bandaid for my issue. I was told by a local Ford dealership that this is a problem with the Bronco Sport and the Escape and that Ford doesn't know what to do about it.
Has or is anyone else having this same issue and what have you experienced?

My 2015 Escape Titanium and my 2021 Badlands both squeak when reversing in wet weather. Both vehicles are super low mileage. It’s normal for these vehicles.

I'm sorry that you're having issues as well. I have not received a brake recall to which I'm surprised. It slays me that Ford thinks we should accept this as normal. It is anything but normal.

The "fix" is to install ceramic brake pads per my Ford dealer. Problem is Ford won't authorize the fix because they say you must use metallic brake pads. Service writer claims that a copper shortage is at the core of the problem. If that's the case, why haven't other manufacturers had this issue.

I have a 2021 Bronco Sport Badlands, I get the noise only i the mornings when I reverse. I read in these forums about a TBS the dealer here in the Dominican Republic first confirmed with Ford that it applies here, then they said there isnt a solution yet...

Hi Vicky,

You're getting some pushback from forum users because the moaning brakes issue has been discussed ad nauseum here. It's generally considered a breach of forum etiquette to post a question on a forum without first checking to see if the topic has already been covered. As others have suggested, you can use the site's search function to read thru all the threads--some very long--regarding this topic.

To focus your efforts a bit you should know there are at least two different issues with the brakes on these vehicles. Early on, there was a recall to replace the front brake pads on certain cars. This was an issue tangentially related to braking performance, not noise, and it's unrelated to your issue.

The other issue--the one you're seeking info on--is about noise. Many have reported a loud groaning/moaning noise when backing their vehicles. Although most who post about it say it happens most often when the brakes are cold and damp, others have reported the problem occurs in all conditions. It may seem otherwise, but Ford has not been idle. It has issued at least two separate TSBs (technical service bulletins, not recalls) to address the noise. The work directed involves replacing/lubricating guide pins and other ancillary brake caliper components, but not the brake pads. Some have reported success, others (like you) say the problem got worse.

To date, Ford has not publicly addressed the fact that many owners report the latest TSB as ineffective. The unfortunate few, such as yourself, must grin and bear it until Ford comes up with a solution. If it's any consolation, many auto manufacturers struggle with brake noises, even some luxury brands. There are many different parts that make up a braking system, and they sometimes interact with each other in unexpected ways to make noise. You may track down an issue to a single component only to find it's really two (or more) components involved.

It's entirely possible the recent work you had done will eliminate the noise forever on your car. Time will tell. My suggestion if the noise returns is to avoid backing up as much as possible. Another thing you can try is to hold a bit of pressure on your brake pedal while backing up. The noise seems to be most prevalent when the brake pads are free-floating over the rotor. Adding a bit of brake pressure may prevent the vibration making the noise.

But at this point I'm not too concerned about the guidelines. I have a a brake issue with a vehicle that cost $31,000. That's a pretty steep asking price for something with such an annoying issue. Ford MMotor Company can make as many excuses as they want but it doesn't change the facts that this brake issue could cause unusual wear and tear on the brakes pads. I've talked to representatives of FMC and they have given me the distinct impression that Ford really doesn't give a shit, bottom line. It's both sad and disgusting that FMC has chosen quantity sales over quality product and services.

I agree, customer service isn't what it should be anywhere. but no one knows anything really, ford service representatives only know what their service techs tell them, whos hands are tied because they're only given warranty replacement parts under FoMoCo authority who already believes they fixed the issue with the pad slap recall. my brakes only started making whale noises after this, along with more brake dust and worse braking performance. so I'm thinking yours already came equipped with these revised brake pads.

like I said earlier, depending on whatever we decide in November when this lease is up ill either get rid of this or end up changing the rotors and pads to something good quality. And do a brake fluid flush. this is the fix
