I've just bought a 23 BS with 1.5. The engine has a small vibration, is this normal. The salesman said it was because of the gel motor mounts in the cold weather. It is mainly at idle and in gear idle. I don't really notice if it is there at driving.

How many miles are on the vehicle?

There are no “gel” engine mounts on this vehicle. They are all rubber insulator type.

There are three engine mounts on your vehicle. Driver side, passenger side and rear engine mounts.

The mount that typically fails is the rear engine mount. These are not that expensive and are not that hard to replace.

close to 27,000 miles
With the transmission in park and the emergency brake activated, open the hood and have some sit it the driver’s seat and press on the accelerator pedal. Use different rpm’s and press up and down while observing the movement of the engine/transmission assembly. Also, while pressing on the brake pedal, shift from Park to Drive back forth and observe engine/transmission movement.

A bad engine mount will allow the engine to move quite a bit.

The other thing to look at is the air box where the engine air filter resides. There are 3 rubber grommets/ insulators that the air box seats in. These grommets can fall out when removing the air box causing a vibrating noise.

Check your motor mounts but I’d say it’s pretty normal for a 3 cylinder engine.
X2, Normal IMO for the 3 cylinder engine the 2023 BS BB I had was the same way. I have a 2025 Maverick now with the 2.0 EB 4 cylinder and it doesn't vibrate like the 1.5 did in the BS BB.

Is the vibration better with the engine running and the transmission in neutral vs in drive mode?

I have a 2.0L so those with the 1.5L are better suited to comment on their situation.

It does it at idle and more noticeable in gear with the brake on.

Yes, it's completely normal.

All engines will have vibration when in gear and the brake is on. Some have better dampening than others.

You got to think, the engine is ready to go, there’s rotational force trying to move the vehicle forward, while having an additional force telling it “no”.

My little speed demon car is notorious for engine vibrations… but I’ve also installed solid motor mounts. The shakes in that thing are sometimes unbearable, but I know what caused it. 🤣

Maybe but the 1.5 EB has a very noticeable vibration in gear that the 2.0 EB in My 2025 Maverick doesn't have.
