I have several very noticeable scratches in my tailgate glass. They don't seem to be cracks going through.

I have no idea how they got there, but glass doesn't scratch easily like this. So what is Ford using for their tailgate glass that could be scratching like this.

The only thing I can possibly think of is ice scraper in the winter, but a plastic blade shouldn't do that, and I can't think of any times I've actually scraped the rear glass (usually just defrost and sweep off).

Wondering if anybody else has found the tailgate glass scratches really easily?

It looks like it's down the center of it.

Could you have rubbed up against something? Tree branches, maybe an automatic car wash?

never been in a car wash. Never been backed up against trees. I can’t see a falling branch possibly doing this either.

Have you confirmed they are in fact scratches? Rub a fingernail across one. If it's a scratch you'll feel it.
This...If they are indeed scratches, your finger nail will "feel" it.

Try some polishing compound and a terry cloth towel to polish them out if they are not actual scratches in the glass.

My assumption is that they’re either not scratches and can be removed by cleaning or someone decided to be a malicious POS.

Think of all the crap that gets stuck on the rear wiper blade. If the glass was delicate we’d all have scratches just from that.

I’m with you on this.

Heck, years ago, I parked my Accord next to another Accord. That Accord looked like they had been sleeping in it for years and hadn’t washed it as long.

Came home that night and noticed my car had been keyed. I can only assume it was them.

I have them too and idk where they came from either. My guess is the same as yours though that it was probably the ice scraper but again idk.

Edit: looking at your pictures, your BS is in Velocity Blue which would make it a ā€˜22 model correct? Because mine is a ā€˜22 model with the scratches in the glass. I wonder if it came from the factory like that and we just now noticed them.

I’ve had some luck with using clay bar when I thought my windsheld was scratched and cleaned it right up. Just went over it wet. Might be worth trying in case it’s not actually scratches but just marks from the ice scraper.

A plastic ice scraper should not be able to scratch glass unless there's something wrong with the glass.

It is a 2022 model. It's possible that it came from the factory like that, but I don't think so, I feel like I would have noticed it at some point. That said, the only reason I did notice it is that I was hand washing my vehicle, and noticed them, and what was most shocking is it wasn't just one, but several! All horizontal (which suggests they weren't from something falling)

I'm mildly worried about them causing a weakness in the glass which could cause it to break. But I'm also afraid of how much replacing it will cost.

It ticks me off that some yaywho would key a glass, for no reason other to be destructive. I hope that's not the case.

It makes me think though that it could be from the factory then because I have the exact same scratches on my rear glass and didn’t notice them until I was looking at the window decals I had put on. I can take pictures of mine when I get ready to leave for work in a bit.
