On this morning's commute to work on the highway a rock came up from another vehicle (they were about 30 ft in front of me in the lane to my right) and hit my windshield in the upper left corner, I see no visible cracks, just the impact point. I have never had a cracked windshield so is this something I need to take care of right away so that cracking doesn't propagate or how should I handle this? Thanks.

Yes, get it fixed immediately. Most insurance companies these days will pay outright for a type of repair that fills chips like that with epoxy to prevent a crack propagating through the glass. The longer you wait, however, the more likely a crack will develop requiring full replacement of the glass, which will almost certainly require you to pay a deductible.

Fix it immediately. You don't want it to develop into a crack and a windshield replacement as that involves recalibration of your camera and it can get expensive fast if insurance doesn't cover it.

Update: taking it in to my Ford dealership tonight (they are giving me a loaner) and they will repair it first thing tomorrow morning for $60, not too bad.

Good. I was about to give some advice about watching and/or filming the repair guy if he worked at a well known national company that does windshields.

Most dealers will bring in an expert from an auto glass company. Perhaps not for crack filling but for most glass repair. The trick on these is to get them completely pumped out of air and then back filled with resin. This will leave you with the most invisible repair.

It's good you are getting it fixed before cracks develop. I've had two windshields damaged so far and they are over $800 to replace. The second windshield decided to crack for no damn reason.

i've had a stone chip on my windshield for the past 2 years, and it hasnt spread. then, two days ago i got another.
i'll most likely get them filled this spring as long as they dont spread.

Depending on where you are at and how big the chip is, it might be better to get them filled now. Any moisture that gets in the chip can freeze and expand and turn it into a crack.

In many cases, once they start to spread it's too late. I would get them seen to immediately.

I think that’s more like all cases but agreed. They don’t get better over time.

Hope a quick fix does it for you. Mine took a major stone chip/crack two days after I took delivery. Definitely needed a new windshield. $ 100 deductible. The Lane keeping system needs to be recalibrated, got a letter from the insurer that no invoice was submitted for the reset.
