Stupid question. This has been bothering me. 22 Badlands. Whenever I put the vehicle in park after coming to a complete stop, the vehicle always rocks a little bit. I know this can happen on a slight incline/decline, but it does this on flat pavement after coming to a complete stop.

Is this normal? Never had a vehicle that did this.

Just like the comment mentioned above, it is totally normal and engages on every automatic transmission vehicle. The parking pawl has to engage when putting into park so that the car is securely parked and doesn't roll away.

Hit the parking brake, before taking your foot off the brake. You won't budge. You will also save the transmission the trouble of bearing the full weight of the vehicle on inclined (or declined) surfaces. win-win

Do this espcially when parked on hills (also know the correct way to park on hills -- ask San Francisco residents). That way your not putting the weight of the vehicle on the parking pawl. The parking brake takes the weight and the pawl is the backup. Not the other way around.

If you saw the parking pawl, you'd instantly understand.

Yes. ALWAYS engage the parking brake before releasing the foot brake. Don’t make the transmission do all the work.
