Get a second opinion. That works for automotive purposes as well.

Good advice.

My primary point remains that auto repair shops should not lie about unnecessary repairs. Period.

It's irrefutable. Lying and taking advantage of people = bad/immoral/unethical. Whether those victims should have known better is irrelevant (or at best secondary).

For example, should the attractive young woman have kept a better eye on her drink and/or brought a friend to the frat party? Maybe, but that does not excuse drugging and sexual assault. To say otherwise is blaming the victim -- not a good look.

In hindsight, there are often things that victims might have done to lessen the chance that they would be ripped off/taken advantage of.

They fact is, some people are overly trusting and/or below average intellectually. Should that make them 'fair game'?

Elderly people are frequently victims of scams -- financial., home repair, etc. Are we really gonna blame an 88 year old great-grandmother because she was taken in by a slick talking guy who told her her driveway needed to be repaved?

Went in for an oil change was told my rear shock is leaking at 40k miles. I feel like that’s way too early and defective.

I've read about that being an issue. Some owners had it covered under warranty.

Many vehicles have shocks/struts that never have to be replaced. The struts on our '97 RAV4 are still good, and it has ~170,00 miles on it.

Some mfrs cheap out on items like struts, figuring that they'll probably make it past the end of the warranty.

I wouldn't feel bad about having to replace them at ~100,000 miles, but 40K is early failure.

Just had our 22 BS BB in for service. 19k miles, no towing, no off-road, light normal driving and they mentioned my rear shocks are leaking and recommend to replace them. Anyone else experience this? Does warranty cover this?
yes warranty should cover shocks, just ask if this is covered under warenty. if they say no, then tell them your going to go with another brand and leave. factory shocks suck, I mean they really suck. in my f350 I went through 3 shocks in the first 5 years on warenty, when the 4th one was getting week I was out of warenty and I just upgraded them all to billstines.

Yeah, my extended warranty has a $200 deductible. If I did the rear shocks with rough country with a guy I know, it'll be $200. I'm thinking maybe it's just better to upgrade to to the blister's now.

Even though it's only the rears, if I go with he bilsteins, I have to do both front and back because they provide a lift, correct?

The rear is lifted by a spacer and the struts are constructed with a longer body. So probably as long as you dont use the spacer they wont make a difference to the ride height

its probably better to just do them all at once. then your not going back in and finishing the back at a later date.

well, not getting done today. Guy I used before for stuff can't do it now. Called the Lift Shop and they want $975 ($800 labor, $175 alignment). I'm also pissed at Sanderson Ford for doing an alignment even though they knew the rear shock needed to be replaced.

Give Sun Devil Auto a call. They’re the best independent shop in the Valley for my money.

It’s an easy job. I did the fronts and back in less than 4 hours total. Post up in a local facebook group and see if there are any mobile mechanics that could do it for ya.
