Opinions expressed here are 100% my own and I have no knowledge of the Ford management decision regarding the HX7G-9F597-BC fuel injectors.

Ford is under considerable pressure to reduce cost, improve quality, etc. I believe cost savings, efficiencies, etc. Ford wants is in the billions of dollars.

Ford management makes the final decisions but saving money even on what seems to us to be small (PCM Programming, drain tube) is not about those parts. It’s the aggregate of all the savings across all the changes affecting all the vehicles. Ford management gets bonuses for reducing cost and improving quality (which is also a cost savings).

I’ve worked in engineering for a long time including automotive and engineering. I used to be amazed at decisions management made but soon realized they get the big bonuses and make decisions without full information. Most of the time lives are not lost based on those decisions and in the case of the HX7G-9F597-BC fuel injectors, the report states:

ā€œFord is not aware of any reports of accident or injury related to this condition.ā€

The aggregate of all the savings is what Ford is after. We can all think that the savings for not including PCM Programming, drain tube is minimal and can be amazed at the management decision (ā€œon Ford’s assessment of the new injectors’ improved robustnessā€) but all the cost savings across the aggregate are worth billions to Ford.

Money talks. As do bonuses.

This is a ridiculous statement. What backing do you have to declare it a bad engine?

Ford has made good on the injector issue. Ford made good on the water pump issue.

Manufacturing from outside vendor parts can happen to any auto manufacturer.
Well a lot of people seem to be having problems with them. You can simply search on here and find them. Along with they can’t fix this issue apparently with the fires because even with this fix it still catches on fire which is what happened to this lady:

This engine is riddled with problems so what I said is not ridiculous like you THINK it is.

I keep telling people when it comes to these cars get the 2.0L. When it was the Escape, the Fusion or any other car that had these 1.5-1.6L Ecoboost engines is 95% of the issues. Dont even get me started on the 1.0L Ecoboost engine that was in the Focus.

Depends on what you mean by ā€œtoo manyā€. In the most recent NHTSA statement (see Post #6) states 19 out of 40k+ production run using the revised HX7G-9F597-BC fuel injector (about 76 per 100k vehicles if scaled up at same rate).

That’s 5 underhood fires on 1.5L Escape and Bronco Sport vehicles built during this window of production plus I think 14 warranty replacements but not sure about the 14.

Isn’t 1 fire 1 too many for a preventable issue? Those vehicles apparently were recently built without the PCM Programming/drain tube.

I wasn't referring to the overall numbers (which are still low TBH). I was referring to

Ahhh yes literally speaking. And only Ford and maybe NHTSA and maybe the collection of insurance companies would know. ?

Scroll up to post #6 … there’s a lot of detail in the links posted there way more than in the Ford Authority summary article.
Yeah FordAuthority doesn’t really put a lot of info in their articles. I’ll check them out.

I was talking about just overall issues with the Dragon Ecoboost engine, not just specific to the fires.

Something is making these injectors crack. I did hear from a guy who had a Fusion Sport that was riddled with engine issues, that Ford puts a lot of stress on these engines to get maximum performance from them. Idk how true that is, but the 3 cylinder engines are very tiny and having to put out 180 hp with a turbo probably is hard on it, idk, I’m not mechanically savvy. I mean they use the same engine in the Fiesta ST and they get I think over 200 hp out of it. I feel that has to be a lot of work for a little 3 cylinder.

Also I heard somewhere these engines have cylinder deactivation on them to save fuel, is that true? Couldn’t that cause stress on parts? I never noticed it with my BS, but of course idk what that’s supposed to feel or sound like. I know it’s jerky in shifts like it wants to give power but can’t decide on how much to give so it jerks. That could be the transmission too, but again idk.

It’s hard to get the 2.0 in the BS because that means having to go for the most expensive BS which is the Badlands. During Covid, I remember some people on here waiting almost a year to get their Badlands while the other trim levels were getting out much more quickly. As I said, idk why they just don’t offer the 2.0 liter as an option on both the Big Bend and Outer Banks or just have it standard on the Outer Banks and have it optional on the Big Bend. I think they would probably get more people to buy them if they did. That 2.0 liter is a damn good engine (sorry for cussing), I loved it in my Fusion. It’s been built longer and Ford’s made a lot of updates to it over its lifespan.

I suspect that Ford wants or needs to limit the number of 2.0L engines in order to try and meet CAFE mpg regulations.
They can do that by limiting its application to just the highest priced trims in each model.
