@MRT Performance I had the same experience as horse & buggy, I de burred with a bastard file inside and out, even though there wasn't much material or an edge to remove since I used a chain cutter not a reciprocating saw. and end to end were exactly the same OD. no way it was even close to slipping over.

Finished with those in just over an hour. While the wheels were off gave them a good cleaning.

haven't posted any updates in a while. MPGs with the new axle back got as bad as 14! I disconnected the negative battery terminal for a bit while I did a brake fluid flush with some liquimoly SL6 fluid. flushed through 2 bottles to get rid of the Ford fluid. it didn't look bad but there was definitely some debris that came out on the rear passenger side.

MPGs are basically back to normal after the reset. I'm getting a consistent 19+ vs the 21-22 with stock. the rear bumper cover is basically a parachute now that the factory muffler isn't in the way and deflecting air down. I may fab up a type of undertray/wind diffusor for the rear bumper and see if that helps. but that's if I have time, and I didn't really buy this car to get good MPGs anyways.

still waiting on CA banned parts that are on backorder until end of august.

also thinking about maybe a leveling kit or mild lift. but then may need to get rid of the crossbars and re think roof basket set up. ideally I would want strut and coil replacement resulting in more height and also a softer ride.

anyways not much new. just been busy lurking

What might be the reason just a battery reset would impact mpg from say 14 to 19+? Hard to see how changing the muffler then resetting the computers would result in such drastic changes

Maybe the brake fluid is the reason for the 5+ gain in mpg

Not sure if sarcasm or not lol

After the switch to the axle back I noticed immediate decline in mpgs. My guess would be change in backpressure which usually turbo vehicles don't need too much of. For example my focus ST which is also a 2L turbo, is tuned for e30 mix fuel, full bolt on, no cat, still gets 17 -18 mpg with idle warm ups, and spirited driving. To get 14 on a stock "economy" car is crazy. That's why I did the battery disconnect to get the ecu to do a keep alive memory reset. Hoping air fuel mixtures would re configure with the new flow properties of the axle back.

I couldn't give you numbers, but I'm sure the flow at the back end is much less restricted, which in my mind would result in the turbo not needing to spin as fast as its used to meaning ecu used to sending more fuel than needed?

I appreciate the answer and your assessment of what caused the drop in mpg and your thought process on how to correct the issue on your vehicle

There is a reason why I asked…

The mpg on my ‘22 Badlands dropped about the same amount for in-town driving in March 2024 (from 23 to 18 mpg) and has pretty much stayed that way year round for primarily in-town driving around Phoenix

All my mpg calculations are done by hand and
the only thing that happened March 2024 is ambient outdoor temperature increased as it always does for summer (March to about October) so the AC is on (a lot). I didn’t get new tires until July 2024 and didn’t need to replace the battery with its corresponding BCM/PCM Programming until June 2024. The ~5 drop occurred March 2024.

Pretty sure the high temps relate to the drop in mpg but the odd thing is even in the cooler months, Nov to Feb, the ~5mpg drop remains.

My current suspicion is the vehicle “thinks” it’s hot out (all year long) and even seems to run the radiator fan on high most often which I didn’t think it did during cooler months prior to March 2024. And maybe the grill shutters relate to the drop in mpg.

I’ve often thought of disconnecting the battery to see if the ECU keep alive memory reset would restore my mpg back to what it was prior to March 2024 but have not bothered because the battery was replaced June 2024 which should have reset the ECU

I’m not sure how to check the grill shutters to see if they behave correctly and beyond that am out of ideas on what caused the ~5mpg drop in March 2024 and continues to present day

And you are right the comment about brake fluid was sort of sarcasm (as a joke)

@Dude I would try leaving the battery disconnected for a longer period of time. when the dealer swapped your battery maybe they did it too quick for the car to do a KAM reset.

brakes do feel a lot better but it might just be a placebo. ?‍♂ I've had good performance using the same fluid on my ST

Install complete. Not a bad install, ford's hose end clips are the worst. Also had to find the spacers for the steeda strut bar to clear the new tube. This thing is huge.

Made up this set up with two 194 morimoto leds I had lying around. Dressed it up with black expandable sleeving to cover the wires. Bullet connecting ends under the air box to the rest of the wiring going through firewall and across to all my acessory power connections on the passenger side.

no new updates. Just been busy driving it and trying to keep it clean. After installing the S&B air box MPG raised back up now getting an average of around 22 -23.

still want to get some accent lighting for the engine bay. I always have a flashlight charged and ready at the bottom of the center console, but some built in lighting might be nice.

@Dude "emergency brake lamp" was just something i enabled but not sure if it works yet. have not tested it, but i was hoping it would be like what some European spec cars have where if you brake hard enough usually at a higher speed it flashes you hazard lights automatically.

the 3rd brake lamp flasher is an inline power module that has selectable patterns based on dip switch positions. i set ours so when you apply the brakes the 3rd brake lamp flashes twice quickly followed by four 1 second flashes then stays solid

i have i think 4 more. and was going to put one on my car but decided i don't need more attention than i already have. in case a cop wants to be picky. technically CA law states any more than 4 flashes in the first 4 seconds is illegal.
