O2 Sensor(s) Replacement

Hey gang!

I’ve been looking through this forum and haven’t found anything… has anyone personally changed their O2 sensors (specifically bank 1)? If so how did you go about it? I know it’s really tight down where they are. I’ve seen some people take this in to be covered under warranty, which is unfortunately not applicable to me (62k miles and only have 100k drive terrain warranty left, which I don’t believe this is covered under).

I was already quoted by a local shop >$1k to replace both, which I’d rather not pay if I can avoid it. The reason I ask is because my bank 1 sensor went out (engine code and is starting to cause start up issues, or potentially gas cap seal which I’m not sure how to permanently fix). I currently plan on tackling this myself, but I’ve been putting it off for a while and am revisiting now.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Just gotta get in there and do it. Removing the cat might be simplest way to swap sensors then reinstall. Fire ring should only be $12 from ford, about $150 - $200 for both sensors on rock auto if you get bosch or denso which is probably what ford uses. And an O2 sensor wrench.

When you say bank 1, I think you mean the upstream sensor? There is only one bank on our BS vehicles, so both sensors are bank 1. V-engines have two banks.

The sensor nomenclature should be Sensor B-S, where B =Bank, and S = Stream. I used to remember this with the acronym "BS" (not Bronco Sport! ).

The two sensors in these vehicles should be sensor 1-1 (bank 1/stream 1 a.k.a. upstream sensor) and sensor 1-2 (bank 1/stream 2 a.k.a. downstream).

Thank you, appreciate it! That special socket/wrench I definitely forgot about. I didn’t know fire rings were needed but makes sense. I previously ordered the Motocraft sensor for bank one, I’m gonna order Motorcraft for the other as well so I can just replace both.

Taking the cat off makes sense, hopefully there’s enough wiggle room for me to do so. Last time I looked in that area, I saw everything was tight

I’m assuming not because I believe all I have is the 100k driveterrain warranty, which from what I’ve seen doesn’t cover O2 sensors. I’d have to look back at my purchase documents as I’m the second owner, but I don’t think I had that one. Thanks though!

I believe that's the standard Ford factory warranty on the Emissions system. You should check into to it as according to google it automatically transfers to the new owner.....Of course google has been wrong a time or two, but you do know what they say about assume.

probably not needed. I've reused mine on my focus a few times and had no leaks, but last time i swapped the cat back in for emissions, and out again, i put a new ring on the catless downpipe just because.
