Do I have to have Ford Premium Connectivity to stream through Apple Carplay in the Bronco?

I have been streaming Sirius/XM radio in my '25 Bronco Sport BL since the 90-day satellite radio preview ran out. I'm at one year of ownership and have recently had trouble streaming from Sirius/XM.

When this happens, my phone shows it is not connected to the Bronco's Bluetooth. The display shows I'm on the apple CarPlay Sirius/XM screen and it the content matches what's on my phone app, but the audio is from the Sirius/XM preview channel. My phone shows the Bronco is not connected to blue tooth.

I have turned the car off and restarted it to reconnect the Bluetooth. As soon as apple CarPlay activates, the phone shows the Bluetooth is disconnected.

I think you might need to subscribe to XM radio

Have you tried something as simple as deleting your phone and repairing it to the BS? Also, I'd try forgetting the BS on your phone as well before you repair. Start with a brand new connection and see if it fixes itself. Also, make sure your apps are up to date on your phone. Something funky happened to the connection if you have had no issues until now.

And as @lil moe mentioned above, you do have a subscription correct?

I re-paired the bronco with the phone and the phone showed Bluetooth "connected" until I tried to use CarPlay to actually start streaming. Then the phone went to "unconnected". I didn't delete the phone from the Bronco, but I did delete the Bronco from the phone. Yes, I have a subscription. I didn't delete the phone from the Bronco, but I did delete the Bronco from the phone.

I'd unpair everything and maybe do a soft reset on Sync. What happens if you plug the phone in? Will it let you stream that way or does it still error out on the radio and play the XM preview station?

This is a dumb question, but are you signed in on the app?

I'll completely unpair and pair again to see what happens. that's a good idea to try the cable to see if it works that way. Yes, I'm signed in on the app.

I believe you describing how your system is working incorrectly.

It sounds like you are using the SiriusXM app on your phone to listen to SiriusXM content through Bluetooth.

When you utilize a device through Bluetooth you are actually utilizing SYNC 4. CarPlay is it’s own operating system that runs on top of SYNC 4.

This is using only a Bluetooth wireless connection.

Open SuxiusXM app on your phone. Press play on the SiriusXM app on your phone.

Tap the Apps icon on your center screen. If SiriusXM icon is not shown, Tap Find Mobile Apps.

Tap on SiriusXM icon.

I unpaired the Bronco from the iPhone and the iPhone from the Bronco, then re-paired the two, enabled CarPlay and all the app icons loaded. I didn't even notice they were missing too! I can stream again. I wonder if I had an update that zapped Sirius/XM?

Could be. Its a little confusing to me. I have two home screens available. One has a mostly grey and white map with other grey and white boxes for Sirius/XM, Settings, and Features. I also have a color screen with the color map from my iPhone, color ions for channels on Sirius/XM and a CarPlay box. I thought if I was seeing the home screen in color, I was using CarPlay.

Are you listening to SiriusXM though your satellite radio in the vehicle or are you streaming through the SiriusXM app on your phone through the cell tower?

Awesome! Anytime my devices get wonky I immediately just repair them or reset network settings on the iPhone and it tends to fix things quickly without much hassle.

As if all that isn't confusing enough ... There are SiriusXM channels delivered by satellite through the antenna on your vehicle AND there are channels delivered via Internet streaming, which require a viable WIFI/Cell data connection on your phone. If you use the BuiltIn SiriusXM system in your vehicle (the top image of the earlier post) you get both. If you use your phone's SiriusXM app you get only the channels offered via internet. There is overlap with many channels delivered both ways. The bugaboo is that if you're listening using the vehicle's builtin SiriusXM to an internet only channel and your WIFI/Cell Data connection gets wonky (you're on a long drive passing through a cell-less area, for example, like Up North Wisconsin), you loose access to that channel. Ask me how I know this 😑
