Prior to discovering this forum, I was oblivious to the "grinding" and "dragging" sensation coming from the rear of the vehicle at low speed, turning, etc. I described it as noise associated with a locked differential or a stuck parking brake. I've owned this certified Big Bend since March (from a dealer with 45Kish miles), and the problem has gradually become more noticeable. A month ago I went to another more local dealer for the factory recall on the electrical issue, and I asked them about the mysterious issue with "grinding." The tech fixed the recall but was "unable to duplicate" the problem. I made sure this was documented on my invoice.
2 weeks ago (concerned about my mileage and my 5/60 drivetrain warranty) I went to another dealer (who shall be unnamed for the moment) who diagnosed the vehicle as a common issue. The hose/vent tube/line from the RDU had "collapsed on itself" and the repair consisted of a new and improved line. The dealership documented the replacement and fluid change of the RDU. They quoted me $575 to repair. I told them it should be under warranty, particularly since the stock part has been upgraded (Ford knew there was an issue.) My service advisor told me he was dealing with Ford and that it was NOT under warranty. What???? He "felt bad" and only charged me $475. I made sure everything was documented (in case something RDU related goes south after my 5/60) and I took my much improved Bronco home, figuring I would deal with Ford about the $475 I came out of pocket for.

Fast forward to today. I have dealt with 2 customer service reps at Ford who were very helpful and were going top get resolution for me. Nearly 2 weeks and nothing. I am being "ghosted" by my first rep- she doesnt respond (anymore) to my email or return my calls. Her Ford voicemail is full, so I cant leave a voice message. The second rep was also very helpful- she told me she would follow up with dealership and get back to me. She would notify #1's supervisor about the lack of responsiveness. Nothing.

This forum post is the last step I take prior to taking it to the next level- at Ford and the dealership that I am convinced tried to rip me off. Any words of wisdom/advice from the group is much appreciated. I've been a fan of Ford (owned a Focus ST, F-150, Explorer, Mustang GT, and a Transit Connect- still have the latter 4) and I have never had issues like this!

TIA!

I think you have a very good case for small claims court. The vehicle has a 5yr/60K warranty on the drivetrain, and the rear differential is not listed as an exclusion in Ford's warranty guide. If the dealership didn't believe there was something wrong with the rear diff then why make a repair?

BTW, you don't need a lawyer to go to small claims court, but you may have to go through an arbitration process first.

I had the same issue with my 21 OB with 58000 miles. My dealership was very helpful. They agreed to make the vent tube correction for $390; and also agreed to replace the RDU and transaxels under the drive train warranty. I am guessing that with similar milage on your vehicle your RDU is damaged to the point of needing replacement as well. Others have posted to the forum about making this same repair at similar milage.

Does the OWNER of your dealership know what your situation is? I went through chats, and phone calls and emails until I was just done - and when I know something is wrong and that it needs to be made right, I will go to the ends of the earth. But not with Ford Corp. I sent an email to the dealership owner just for a laugh - and about a week later, I got a phone call from his Assistant. THEY fixed my problem. Sometimes the owner isn't aware of things customers are being told and will want to make it right - maybe? Just a thought.... Good luck, seriously!

True. A chance encounter I had with the owner of a dealership during a service visit led to a discussion about why I didn't purchase the vehicle at that dealership. That discussion led to the sales manager losing his job.

Bronco sport 25,000 miles. A water pump, rear differential replaced, 2 windshields, squealing brakes. Ford reps said they would help and did nothing. I went to my service department and they were going to charge me $600 for a $29 vent tube.
It would take like an hour the most to put it in. Then they said next appointment wS 2 weeks away. I paid half and left. Empire for of huntington arenthe biggest crooks. I went to Levittown Ford and they said it’s not the tube it is the rear differential.
They replaced it in 3 days no charge at all
They were great. My old dealer wouldn't give me my money back so I called the credit card company. They refunded me the money. Ford couldn’t give a damn
No more Fords for me Toyota

Has Ford fixed the RDU problem in their new Bronco Sports? I have a build date of 4/24.

Does not seem so… I’ve seen a couple ‘24 owners post their issue but I recall they managed to put some decent amount of mileage on their vehicle

what I don’t know is if Ford began to install an improved RDU vent hose at some point on factory builds

The tube is $29 dollars. It would take less then an hour to replace. At $225 an hour plus the tube I figure it would be $254.00. The tube is not the problem. It needs a new differential

I hope any Toyota is better than the Brand New Hyundai Santa Fe a guy on here bought 6 weeks ago and the Transmission took a crap after 5 weeks. He said Hyundai and the Dealership has been no help 2 months for a new one!!

No luck from PV rep at Ford. They are confused as to why dealership didn't cover. No one at dealership will return Fords calls. I will wait patiently today and if no resolution I will take the next steps. I suspect foul play at dealership.

OMGosh…I was thinking the Hyundai Santa Fe would be my replacement! They have a great warranty but what I really want is a great car!
The Telluride is looking better now.

Foul play for sure.
My dealership has had an RDU on back order for me for NINE weeks now. My car just sitting there. I had to twist arms for a loaner/rental ($267/week) which thankfully they’re covering after much discussion.
I spoke with four Ford CS reps and they all gave me different information. My “case rep” closed the file without letting me know (after NO resolution!) because apparently her having had contact with the dealership was considered sufficient. I left three messages for her to please call me back and never heard back. I never got an incoming call from corporate, ever.
