Inspired by the Beer of the Day thread, I figured a good beverage (of whatever variety) deserves a proper meal to go with it. Whether it's a struggle dish, something from your childhood that Mom would whip up, or you wanted to stretch your culinary muscles, what's for dinner?

So today, it's Braised Beef Short Ribs in a Red Wine Reduction (Arizona grown, grass fed short ribs), served over a garlic-infused Pomme Puree, accompanied by Baby Asparagus. First time trying this; the short ribs were part of a package I got from a cattle ranch near Cottonwood, and even though I hate the things, I'm not throwing out good beef, my personal tastes be damned. I'm no chef, just a moderately competent amateur with as many failures as successes. It's really a simple dish, but I'll have to rely on SWSBO's review since I won't touch the stuff. For me, it's the making more than the eating.

I got a recipe for Irish stew from an addendum at the end of a novel by an Irish author. I tried it out on St. Patrick's Day. I thought it was great, my wife was indifferent. I made it again last month, and this time my wife and our daughter loved it. It's a hearty, flavorful meal. The recipe uses a bottle of Guiness and a cup of red wine, so it's definitely not your run of the mill pot roast.

Yeah, Irish Stew is definitely its own thing. Leeks, turnips, and rutabaga are a must. I still have a hunk of lamb in the freezer for a batch.

I'm big on smoking meat - brisket, pork belly, pork butt, ribs and homemade summer sausage.

I do about 4 or 5 briskets each year, pork belly monthly and ribs several times each summer.

These are not from today and no I didn’t cook them. I’m not a good cook, but I am a good eater! Two of my favoraite meals at couple of places we visit every year.

Blackened pan fried walleye with eggs over easy, hash browns, and whole wheat toast for breakfast. Wolf Pack Cafe in St. Germain WI. (Closed earlier this year)

Clams steamed in sake, mirin, garlic, and butter. No pics, they got eaten too fast!

$20 for 5 pounds at Costco, fresh from Washington state. Helluva deal. Also a challenge when you’re only feeding two people.
