Did anyone happen to take a closer look at the Mazda CX-30 before they bought their Bronco Sport?

I don't regret for a minute buying my '24 BB, but I do wish I had taken a closer look at the CX-30 at least for sakes of comparison. Because at least on paper it looks really interesting. I like the overall design. And the reviews in general are quite favourable even for the base 2.5L engine. Also in terms of features and the price of the various models it's very comparable to the Bronco Sport.

Yes, it does look more car like than the Bronco which is definitely more truck like. And it's said to handle very well. It’s also reasonably capable off pavement, although it's obviously not meant for hard off-roading.

I like Mazda's Soul Red Crystal colour, but I really like the Machine Grey with the red interior. The interior is also nicely and cleanly designed and not overdone. The exterior is also clean and not overdone like so many other designs on the market. My one gripe with the exterior is the overdose of black cladding around the wheel wells and along the bottom of the vehicle.

Thoughts anyone?

Someone on Youtube, Sarah-n-Tuned,, did take it off-road to some extent and was actually blown away by its capability. She determined the stock tires were the real limiting factor along with ground clearance.

Apparently in Europe you can get the CX-30 with a manual transmission. But not here... ?

I know the CX-50 has a Meridan trim that is more suited to the trails.

The CX-30 is a pretty solid vehicle, I looked at the CX-50 briefly... but the Bronco Sport brings that extra rugged capability. It really comes down to personal preference...if someone wants a more refined daily driver, the Mazda makes more sense, but for those of us looking to go onto some trails the Bronco Sport is definitely hard to beat

I admit I didn't buy the Bronco Sport for off-roading. I mostly just really like it. And I can't fault its road manners. I did consider the CX-30, but not really seriously because what I knew of it I liked the look and fit (for lack of a better word) of the Bronco more.

But If I found myself looking for an alternative I would look more closely at the CX-30.

I test drove a CX30 before knowing about the BS. I had the Mazda Dealer looking for one that I wanted. But then Ford announced the Bronco Sport. The Mazda Dealer still hadn't come through with a CX30 so we ordered the Sport. The CX30 inside felt smaller to me.

I don't like the current Escape (for a variety of reasons, styling being a major one) and to me the CX-30 is an "Escape." So even though I've had great experiences in previous Mazdas the CX-30 interests me not one bit.

I don’t like the current Escape either mostly because it’s a bland, character-less, me-too design like so many others in the segment. It looks like an appliance. Speaking strictly on design I do like the CX-30 because it looks a bit edgy, with some attitude, but in a cleanly executed way. It’s not bland. So many others try to look edgy with a lot of extraneous elements that look too busy, too overdone.

The Bronco Sportā€˜s design works because it went for a more truck-like, utilitarian look and in a cleanly executed way.

Talk about edgy and a ridiculous look, look at the Subaru vehicles and the extra black cladding on the sides and wheel wells. Ugly look just to be different.

Yeah super ugly. You called that one right

I’d have bought the wilderness or whatever latest name they use but liked the Bronco Sport way more

Moving from Mazda CX-5 to Bronco Sport in a week
After 12 years with Mazda CX-5 and a very long look at the CX-50, my first comment regarding the CX-30 vs Bronco Sport is simply that the CX-30 is too small. I can pack more in my Bronco Sport than I could in my CX-5 and in the CX-50, even though both are longer.

I also found a better value for my dollar with the Outer Banks vs. the equivalent feature packages on the CX-50 or the CX-5.

Perhaps the oddest part of my personal journey to the Bronco Sport is that I would not have even looked at the Bronco Sport if my dealer had quoted a competitive price and full information on how long it might take to get a Green CX-50.

Bottom line, both great vehicles, if you want more "zoom-zoom" and standard SUV Look, Mazda is great. I am finding the ride height, stance, fit in my garage and cargo capacity favor the Bronco Sport.
