I’ll try and keep this short, no need for a full write up. I used the installation Manual provided by @bjbena for each and every step.

https://www.broncosportforum.com/forum/attachments/ft1z-15a416-a-pdf.17553/

First, this is definitely a doozy. Unless you’re confident with wiring I would not recommend diy-ing this. The wires are 20 or 22 gauge (I’m not positive) and very prone to damaging. So unless your an idiot like me and willing to damage essential functions than I would honestly just get the tekonsha or Curt or U-Haul plug and play harnesses lol.

Where the manual says to splice into the oem wiring (image #11) just wasn’t realistic due to it being a huge bundle of wires with zero play to solder and strip back. So I opted to splice in right before the wires entered the grommet going into the tail light housing.

I did confirm the wiring the manual references coincided with the actual wiring my vehicle had, with a probe into the taillight plug.

When removing the plastics be patient and take your time. Any time your about to hulk out stop and assess what might be catching.
Maybe I couldnt figure it out but I was unable to completely remove the cargo area plastics, from what I could tell I would have had to remove the rear seats to free them so I just worked with the space I had. Also, the manual states it but I’m gonna state it again
Disconnect your ground at battery! The lower A pillar plastics and B pillar plastics are close to air bag components. I think anyways. Lol

I am not a professional, I worked at a tractor dealership soldering telematic kits and various soldering for a few months.

I’m more than happy to answer any questions and provide any tips but honestly, just get a professional. This took me 4.5 hours. 30 mins was confirming the wiring on my vehicle and the wiring in the manual was the same. 30 mins was just staring at the oem wires petrified and assessing how I was gonna do it all without damaging anything.

Be easy on me. If anything looks shoddy it’s not out of laziness, I did everything as close to the book as I knew how/could.

Wow! Impressive!

Reminded me of wiring an alarm system into my '83 Rabbit L forty years ago after the head unit was taken. Something I would never do now. :)

Thanks! Definitely the gnarliest project I’ve ever taken on. I was a bit shakey while soldering hahaha I will never mess with a main harness again.

I bought a plug and play wire harness for my 2022 Bronco Sport Big Bend. The harness plugs in to existing sockets and no cutting wires. I also put on the factory hitch.

That’s honestly what I should have done. The only pro to this harness, which In hindsight you could 100% do with the other harnesses, is the manual shows how to route the 12v power wire through the cab instead of tied underneath

Your smarter than I am haha

Does the Oem harness give you any additional functions over aftermarket? The factory installed option allows vehicle to automatically detect when a trailer is plugged in and disables backup sensors. It also tells you if trailer lights are burnt out. Does the oem wiring kit do any of this?

Factory installed options are OEM, so if you purchase a harness from Ford or another reseller of Ford factory parts, it’s the same as what the factory installs.

That being said, there are possibly changes required at the software level through FORScan or by a dealer to ensure the BS properly recognizes the harness.

I don't believe you are correct. The factory installed option comes with a trailer module which automatically detects when trailer is connected and disables rear sensors. It also lets you know if you trailer lights are burnt. There is a selectable screen on the dash. The oem dealer installed option is not equivalent to this. The oem dealer installed option is equivalent to the aftermarket options. This is what the dealer confirmed to me.

Based on what you're relaying, either the harness isn't truly model-specific, but more a generic harness, or if it is model-specific, then the dealer doesn't know what they're talking about when it comes to functionality.

In other words, if the harness sold and installed by the dealer is truly the same harness that would be installed at the factory, then the same functions and options should be available assuming the dealer knows how to enable them.

I'll defer to @rugedraw for his opinion.

do you think if I plug in the trailer light tester It would be a viable option to test this theory?
I don’t have a trailer to plug into. On my lunch break I’ll give it a shot. Considering I did absolutely nothing with forscan I’d be surprised if anything automatically happens

I know that FDRS has guided routines in it that dealers can use to program things that want to be added to vehicles didn't bring from factory. Not sure if they have one for this since my use for FDRS never required it, but I would assume it does need some kind of programming if you DIY it. There are toggles in the touchscreen related to towing that would not just appear because you added a tow hitch and trailer module. I know I've seen posts about adding it in the F150 forum, but off the top of my head, I don't remember what it entails. Most likely easy stuff that can be done with easy mode in forscan.

Like auto hitch, for example. Didn't come on my truck from factory, but I enabled it with FORScan.

Oh, and this is the best towing feature ever. If anyone with a 2025 BS wants to try to enable this, let me know. Requires tow package and 360 cams.

Nice job! That's a big project to tackle.

I installed a trailer hitch (I tried the Draw Tite, but it hung down too low for my liking and I ended up going with the Curt, which I'm quite happy with). I did NOT have to remove the rear bumper cover for the Curt but I had to take it off to discover the Draw Tite was too low! :crying:

I didn't feel the factory Ford hitch was worth the extra money, and you have to remove the rear crash beam, which leaves the rear corners seemingly less protected in my simple mind.

Your photo of the cargo area disassembled reminds me EXACTLY of what I did. I worked with those trim panels pulled away and held together with a bungee cord to make room to work behind them. It worked well and I didn't break anything.

I added a subwoofer AND the aftermarket trailer module/wiring to mine at the same time, so my interior tear up was about as bad as yours in the end. I guess I could have installed the Ford trailer harness while I had it all torn apart, but like with the hitch, I just didn't feel the price and effort were justified.

Kudos to you for doing it "right!"
