The technology is continuing to frustrate me (old, not tech savvy, hate computers and smart phones), I really dislike that damn screen, and I am regretting this purchase. I also find it most difficult to smoothly take off from a start, in any setting, and the brakes are difficult to make a smooth stop. My '25 Heritage is showroom condition with 1000 miles. Should I try to trade it now, or just live with it for a year or two before moving on? I'll take a hit either way but don't want to be totally stupid about it. Any advice?

Did you RTFM? [read the manual]

What specific issues with the screen are you having?

Is the auto start/stop engaging? Perhaps that is making it harder to get a smooth takeoff, as there is a delay while the engine fires up before you get rolling.

Trading in probably won't help your situation unless you go with a used vehicle, as pretty much everything is overloaded with screens and has minimal hard buttons.

I can only speak for the BL Sas, but yes, the brakes are a bit grabby until they’re fully bedded and you get accustomed to how they engage. More so than other cars? Maybe, maybe not. Every car is unique.

As far as the tech implementation, there’s a lot that I’d change in the UI/UX, but different isn’t necessarily better or worse, it’s just different.

I’ve had a longer learning curve with this than other cars, but after 1100 miles, we’re coming to terms with one another. I’d prefer more simplicity, but new ā€˜66 models are hard to come by, so I will continue to adjust.

It takes a while to get used to new things. But if it brings frustration, get rid of it.

I don’t have a problem with this feature. Mine starts up and just starts moving smoothly when foot is placed on gas. I love this feature.

I find the screen in the BS less obtrusive than most new vehicles. I do prefer the older vehicles with expanding or shocking red or blue line for temperature or the ones with it built into the knobs but that’s really my only complaint. I like the whale sound of the brakes. No real issues with acceleration but then I have the 2.0. Atleast you are getting stellar gas mileage.

Obviously, if it brings you much disparate, get rid of it. Life is too short. But, it’s just a vehicle to take you from A to B.

It sounds like you should rent some vehicles to see what you like a dislike. Most of the Heritage is looks from the outside. You seem to care more about what’s inside and under the hood. Focus on those attributes when looking for a new vehicle.

My '23 Sport is still in the family but I don't own it anymore. My wife took it off my hands. She needed a new car but hated spending a ton of money on something new. I gave her a great deal on it. It has less than 2,000 miles and is in pristine condition with plenty of extras and one year left on the warranty. She's happy with it so far. Just enough new tech not to drive her crazy. Me, I was never really thrilled with it. I wanted something with a more luxurious feel to it. I bought a new 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe XRT. Great ride, much more power than the Bronco and plenty of comfort and tech. Best of all no payments.

That auto start/stop (I'll keep it family friendly)"feature" is (IMHO) the most ridiculous thing ever created for the automobile. There's no possibility of convincing me it does not tax at least the battery, starter, alternator, etc. The removal of that idiotic function alone was worth the $500 I paid for the tune. Furthermore, if I wanted a golf cart, I would have bought one

Bill,
I am truly someone who believes that too much technology gets in the way of a lot of things. I am driving a 24 Badlands. It does have more knobs and buttons for things, and I like that. I also am concerned about the turbo charged GDI engine and the issues that they all have, regardless of brand, and that are not addressed in the owner's manual.

However, I am not a complete Luddite. I do like somethings: the automatic climate control, heated seats and Bluetooth capabilities.

I think as you drive it and get used to the tech, it will grow on you.

I have to ask, when you phone connects wirelessly, does the map app on your phone connect wirelessly as well? I have to plug my phone in order for it to show on the display

All pre 2025 Sports utilize Sync 3. You do have to connect by cord. However, that being said, I have been using the Navigation that came info system, and it has been, on the whole, very good.

Hi Bill, how are you? I understand that technology can be complicated, I'm an old man myself. If you don't get used to it, the best thing to do is sell it and trade it in for another vehicle that makes you happier. As another forum member says: life is short, and you have to enjoy it as much as possible. If you don't enjoy a car, there's no point in owning it. I'm telling you this because a few years ago I bought a Toyota Fortuner (SW4 in my country) and sold it after three months of owning it. Good luck.

I'm conflicted. It's cute as a bug and I like the way it drives, which is why I bought it. I just wish that all radio and AC controls were on dedicated knobs, and the steering wheel controls were not so small and so many of them. I can't safely change temperature while driving and that pisses me off! I actually really like the adaptive cruise control and lane centering, so I am open to new things. I will probably try to get used to it as there is little out there that is what I want, which if probably a return to the vehicles of eight years ago or so. Thanks to all for the replies.

Oh yeah, the auto stop/start is not the issue and I do not find that to be intrusive. But on or off, Eco Normal or Sport, acceleration from a stop is a stutter, unless I floor it. A gentle smooth take off eludes me. That's only a minor irritation, but it is an irritation. Maybe me or the vehicle will sort that out soon.
