You purchased a used vehicle and assume that you purchased a new vehicle. You have no idea how the vehicle was maintained.

The tires may have not been balanced and rotated on a regular basis. I have a 21 OB with 95,000 miles. My tires lasted 65,000 miles because of care and maintenance. I replaced the Michelin Primacy A/S tires with the same. They have 30,000 miles and look new.

I had to replace both the battery and alternator. The OEM battery was the AGM. The replacement was the same. The alternator was replaced because of bad bearings. Both of these were out of warranty. This is just normal wear.

I did not get on this forum and complain after I had to repair the vehicle. I love my OB. For the miles I have on the vehicle, I have not spent that much for maintenance.

You want to be treated like a new vehicle owner. You could have spent a little more and purchased a new vehicle with a new vehicle warranty.

The issues you have are not out of the ordinary. Just fix the vehicle. This could be the best vehicle you ever owned.

To be fair you did pay close to what a new Big Bend can be purchased for. Buying used is a gamble and if you were able to pay 31k for a car with 34k miles that probably sold for close to that new, then you can’t make the argument that you couldn’t afford a new car. You can get a new BB for close to that price today.

I don't think you can be upset with Ford for having to pay for repairs on a car that's out of warranty.

My mistake … we paid 27

Look bud, I get you're stinging and nobody is trying to add salt to the wound but you've gotten some good, solid advice here. Stand down with the aggression.

You don't know the way the previous owner maintained the vehicle. You're probably best off assuming they didn't and being prepared to fork over some money to catch back up on it.

And 20K miles in 5 months is a TON of mileage.

That sort of usage is going to make things go down hill faster than expected. Cars do have a specific life expectancy- the average American does about 15K or so per year pre-pandemic. I personally drive about 20K annually. You did my annual mileage in under half a year!

Well, that's a better number. It seems to me if you decide to sell it--and it sounds like your connection to this vehicle is forever tainted--you should get close to what you have in it.

Whatever you do, don't accept the $1400 repair bill without getting a second opinion. They've already told you the repair will not be covered under warranty, so there's no need to take it to a Ford dealership. Check around your local area for a reputable independent repair shop and take your car there. Most independent repair shops either do not charge a "diagnostic fee," or they deduct it from the repair bill if you decide to have them do the work.

There's really no excuse for not knowing a used vehicle's history. Dealers usually have a Carfax where you can see the maintenance done. Unsatisfactory or lack of maintenance list, I don't buy the vehicle.
Plenty of mistakes made by the OP but hopefully a learning process for the next time.

It’s at the dealership we purchased it at. They gave us an F150 loaner and said it would be 2 weeks.
it’s been a few days.
I reached out to Ford and they may be helping with the cost or even coving the cost of the repair.

I just got a call back from our dealership. They said it’s not the fuel injectors it’s a bad alternator and that it’s $ 1400 to replace, not covered under our warranty plus I will have to pay for the 200 diagnostics.
we just purchased this vehicle 4 months ago.
I am livid! And I don’t have 13 dollars I don’t know what the heck I’m gonna do.
This is bullshit.
If there’s any way to go to a small independent mechanic I’d do it. My local Ford dealership is a joke. Every little thing I’ve ever gone there for is magically $1100, even a brake job. I just laugh at them. I paid $400 for at a small garage. It’ll be with the tow!

If I keep this BS which is kind of doubtful, I will definitely buy an online discounted Ford ESP.
I don’t believe you can purchase Ford Protect (formerly ESP) after the original warranty period has passed.

I know. I have 2 3/4 years to decide if I keep it that long. Mileage won't be an issue at around 5k per.

My apology. I believe the OP suggested she was going to consider purchasing ESP and she’s already out of warranty. I must have accidentally replied to your comment.

Well, this is a thread.

Gonna be honest here - I traded in my Big Bend and ordered a Badlands because I was worried about the reliability of the 1.5L engine and dissatisfied with how it fit my lifestyle. If folks have any concerns about the longevity of a car, trading it in is usually their first instinct. You likely purchased a vehicle that was driven unusually hard or a vehicle someone did not want to keep because of reliability concerns. It pays to have any used vehicle checked by an independent mechanic before you sign for it. If finances are a concern for you, a $100 inspection could save you thousands on repairs.

Additionally, I paid 27k for a brand new Big Bend in 2021. MSRP has gone up significantly since then, but I'm seeing lower mileage Big Bends for less than what you paid online, especially 21s since MSRP was lower. It's always worth doing a whole bunch of research and walking into the dealership armed with "price match" examples that may swing the argument in your favor if you 100% want that car off the lot. A little prep work before you intend to purchase can save you a ton of money. Even ordering my Badlands for guaranteed MSRP, I walked into the dealership with an entire folder of paperwork ready to argue when they gave me a hard time about price.

They said it’s not covered. We have 54k on it. Purchased it with 34k and within 2 weeks need new tires, had
To replace battery, recall work, now alternator. And nothing has been covered. This vehicle is a lemon.
I had a brand new 22 Bronco Sport and had a full transmission replacement after barely having it for 6 months. A few months later I had another noise that sounded like fluttering under the starting column. I called big Ford and they set me up with an agent who then processed my case and sent it to a Lemon Lawyer. Long story short, Ford bought my vehicle back and I got everything I put into it I.e. every payment I made, down payment, extended warranty purchase. I’d say try it it’s worth a shot! Worst case They tell you no. My process went fairly quick too.
