I read on another forum that the fuel injectors on the Bronco Sport can crack and start a fire. Has anyone had that issue and how is Ford handling it.

Just read on this forum that Ford is doing a recall on the injectors and adding a sensor that will warn drivers that there may be a leak.

There's a recall. The problem is if you experience a cracked injector (a possibility for any vehicle, not just Bronco Sport) the fuel and/or fumes may collect under the hood near components hot enough to ignite them. The fix involves a software change to detect a drop in fuel pressure, and installation of a drain hose to route fluid leaks away from hot engine components.

So far, Ford has not recommended owners stop driving their cars, and based on the numbers reported, it doesn't seem like that's necessary. If you experience a cracked injector you may notice a change in performance (hesitation while accelerating) due to reduced fuel pressure, but the most noticeable symptom will be the smell of gasoline.

I wouldn't worry about driving your car for now. Contact your dealership to get on the schedule now to have the recall work completed. As I understand it, there is currently a parts shortage, so it may be a while before you can get it in. In the meantime, be alert for any symptoms. If you smell gasoline while driving or after parking then I would stop driving the car until you get the recall work accomplished.

My car is in the shop today getting the repair. They finally got the replacement piece and the required software. They're delivering the car to my house this afternoon. Great service department.

My dealer said they get the 1 to 2 parts for the recall each week. I had called last week to get put on the list and they called me today to come in Friday to get it done. Just depends on the dealership I guess.

My partner bought her 2022 BS OBX on 1/6/23. She passed away in April. I sold her car back to the dealer where she bought it on 5/15/23. Being an estate sale there's some extra paperwork involved. I called the used car manager a few days ago to ask about it. Once he explained the paperwork he told me that the car burnt up. Apparently it was test driven and afterward the couple and salesman were looking it over, heard a pop under the hood and the flames started. By the time the fire company got there it was totaled. Ford is supposed to be sending engineers to look at it.

That car was in my attached garage most days that she owned it. It surely had the potential to burn the house down!

And you assume this is the result of a cracked fuel injector?

I would be curious to know a couple of things. First, was this vehicle subject to the recall? If you have the VIN you can determine whether or not out at this link. Second, if it was subject to the recall had the recall work been performed? If you have the VIN any Ford dealership can look that up.

I put the VIN in the NHTSA site. It says "0 unrepaired recalls". She bought it on 1/6/23 and it had only been at the dealer a few days, so was probably built in 11/22 or 12/22.

Interesting. Please keep us updated on whatever information you may obtain about this incident. I've not heard of any fires related to fuel injectors on vehicles not subject to the recall.

You know, I've been hearing a lot about aliens lately....
And did you know the aliens left, and took sasquatch with them?

And what's this recall on injectors catching fire I'm hearing about?

The recall is not for fuel injectors, it's for handling the fuel leak if/when a fuel injector does break/leak. Apparently the place that Ford designed to drain the fuel away did not completely keep the fuel away from items that get hot enough to ignite the fuel. The recall installs a drain tube to usher that leaking fuel away and safely to the ground. There is also something about the computers being able to recognize that there is a leak and sending a warning to the driver through the instrument cluster.
