The last paragraph is the only one that matters.

I thought it would’ve been worse

“ The most recent ATP data we've written about shows the average buyer paying a little more than $1,000 through nearly all of the first three quarters. In September, luxury buyers doled out up to 4% over sticker, mass-market buyers put down a little less percentage-wise, paying an average $826 over sticker. ”

Flat out zero down, lowest price/value determines my choices. I'll pay a "premium MSRP" For a vehicle worth it's cost. I paid more for my sport than most vehicles ove owned. It's been worth it so far and I paid just under sticker. 37% no way in hell.

I wonder how the survey was taken. The data doesn’t make sense at all. 37% could be $15k+!!!

So they have a multiple choice of -10%, msrp, +10 and + 40% ??? :)

I think we all got sucker into clicking the link. It doesn’t mean much at all.

it really depends on how the survey questions were asked.

With inflation and higher interest rates, vehicle sales are likely to decrease drastically. I ordered mine in Feb and got it in April because the dealer already had one on order. They just changed it to fit my choices. The local dealer 3 miles from the house was charging $5,000 dealer markup because Carmax was buying theirs and reselling them for $6,000 more. I drove 20 miles out of town and got mine without the markup, and with the $1,000 rebate. When they sell at MSRP the dealer is making bank. They aren't going to like the next few years quite as much.

I would’ve felt ripped off if I even paid msrp on my badlands. Don’t think it’s worth 40k. I don’t think it was worth the sticker price let alone the 2500$ msrp increase that Ford did on them after I got mine. You’re fucking dumb if you paid more than sticker.

I will not pay over MSRP. My Bronco was MSRP-rebates. That was about all I would pay or I would have shopped more. I wasn't in a rush. The last car we bought, we drove 300 miles to get, because the local dealers thought the exact same car here was worth $2500 or $3500 more. Even at today's gas prices that made sense. Heck, one dealer thought a used one with 6500 miles was worth $1500 over MSRP on new. There was a real issue with supply in the pandemic. Everyone is tired of hearing about that now. Companies that haven't corrected yet aren't trying very hard. Gouging is easier.

Things won't get better. Just wait until so many people get their wish and eliminate the dealership model of selling cars. Get ready to pay MSRP or more without the ability to shop or negotiate. Bronco may or may not outlast me, either way, might be the last car I buy.

I paid over MSRP for mine back in March. I changed jobs and my new company doesn’t have company cars like my previous so I needed a car ASAP. I get paid mileage so car payment is taken care of from reimbursement. It’s all relative for what you pay and how you feel about it. I could have bought a used car, paid taxes and registration, drove something I didn’t want for 5 months, sell it back then buy the sport and pay taxes and registration again. Why would I do that when I can pay a small markup that I can afford and get the car I wanted immediately. If I could have waited I would have, but sometimes life doesn’t let you wait.

Unfortunately, in today's climate, you are over the barrel if you really need something now. Hopefully we can get back to normal before too long.

I would say this is a bit harsh. I would never pay over MSRP, but then again a couple years back I thought I would never pay over invoice. That, of course, was during normal market, and the market has changed. This is now a seller's market, which means if you want and/or need something right now you pay the market price. If you happen to live in a market where these vehicles are particularly hot, and you don't want or have time to travel, you will almost certainly pay over MSRP.

That doesn't make someone dumb, it just means they have different priorities.
