Not the typical engine cover thread. I drove my BS today around 20 miles and opened the hood when I got home. Wow! A lot of heat was there. I mean a lot. I'm looking into an engine cover but all that heat is turning me off on buying one and I have a seller that has one. Yes, I know the cover won't hurt but the heat was amazing. I'm glad I bought a hood insulator.

Heat is the biggest enemy of turbocharged engines.
True but I believe the engine cover deletion was due to cost-cutting. If not, earlier BS owners with an engine cover would be told to remove it.
Ford did the same thing with a '19 Ranger I had and I bought a cover.

I don't believe it was cost cutting. I believe Ford was unable to source the part during the supply chain interruptions and chose to sell vehicles without it rather than let them sit and wait.

That very well could be but year to year, Ford and other auto manufacturers are deleting items. I was looking at a Lincoln Corsair and many had a $250 subwoofer delete on the sticker. Probably for the same reasons you posted..

I'm almost certain I read that Ford purposefully produced and sold vehicles with inoperative systems. Those systems required chips that were unavailable. Customers were told they could bring in their vehicles when the chips became available to have the inoperative systems activated.

I live in New Mexico, where it runs 100+ during the Summer months, and the hood insulation as well as the engine cover act as a "Heat Deflector" and should save the paint and finish. I am looking for an engine cover and the insulation for my Big Bend. I sent a letter to Ford and they told me that "supply chain" was the reason, however it was "not needed". Now if it was needed, what changed? If you have one or know where to buy either, let me know, I would be interested. I find this topic, just as well as the "skid plate" that was changed under the vehicle. They say the BS is great for "off road", but at $1800 to repair the emission canister why would the skid plate be "felt"? I guess it is not needed either. lol

The hood insulation is available and easy to install. Be careful when buying an engine cover online. In my strong desire to buy one, I almost got scammed when almost buying one in the last week. A member here A.Bursell clued me in on the scam.

10-4 These modern engines run a lot hotter than the engines of the 60's to 80's.

Probably due to emission regs.

Old thermostats were 170-190 degrees.
Not as many factory produced turbo charged engines in the 60's to 80's...there where some, but no where near what we see today, especially small displacement turbo charged engines

Understand the turbo created heat within the engine compartment. Even current non turbo engines run at 200+ operating temperatures as the norm.

In my wife's 2021 Mercedes GLB 250, it has a 2.0 turbo motor. It has the turbo directly behind the radiator, not next to the firewall. Beneficial for cooling, who knows.

I think that the higher temps are the reason batteries tend to deteriorate faster than they used to.

With all the heat , I'll be going with 100% synthetic oil. I'm surprised Ford doesn't recommend synthetic instead of maybe a 30% synthetic mix in the blended oil.

It may be because of the recommend 5K interval between changes, and the semi synthetic works with that. If they stated full synthetics, then some folks would perhaps go with the recommendations of the oil manufacturer that states 7500 between changes, and ignore Fords statement.

Toyota goes 10K or a year with synthetic oil. which I would never do A year for me is 5K on the BS. I also have free oil changes and rotations for two years. I'll have to add extra for synthetic. I believe in synthetic oil and have used it in all my vehicles for years. Now that I'm in hot and humid SC, it's really a no brainer for me. I also use Premium fuel in any turbo vehicle I've owned.

Hey, thanks for the heads up. Ford no longer offers the engine cover through parts, so I guess it is time for the Salvage Yard cruise. Thanks again. Rodger
