My outerbanks came without the illuminated keypad, I would really like to have this as an option, I know I can do the install myself, but does it have to be programmed by Ford, or can it be enabled with Forscan, or does it even need enabling in the software.

Thanks

Hey Humper. I went through and added the illuminated b-pillar keypad to my wife's '24 outerbanks.

The keys will light up or have a light after being plugged in but will need to be enabled. I used Forscan to access the ByCM.

You can find the factory security code in small print on the BCM. Mine also had the SecuriCode card in a card slot on the front of the BCM.

Part number: M1PZ14A626AB
Useful video:

You can do it without fully taking off the window regulator door insert/cover. But it a bit of a pain.

The function to try and pull up the factory code through sync by using both keys did not work for me. It seems that function has to be enabled first in the BCM.

That's awesome news, I feel confident I can do the install myself, but it's been a minute since I used Forscan, so in the bodyCM you just enable the keyless keypad? Do you remember what exactly you what ir was called you enabled.

Thanks for the response, I'll order a keypad today.

Our badlands came without this kinda bummed since the big bend had it. my research so far is the badlands might be missing that part of the harness to hook this up. Can anyone confirm?

I know if you go onto Fords website to build a Badlands, you can add the keypad as an option, I believe these are dealer installed pieces, so I would assume the harness is there.

For 2025, The wiring harness is not necessarily there, that is if Ford went to using the stick-on wireless battery powered keypad as on the full size Bronco.
There are YouTube videos for the full size Bronco keypad to remove the keypad and relocate it inside the fuel door - no wires!

The unfortunate is that the keypad essentially acts like a keyfob outside the door. It transmits on the same frequency as a keyfob. I am not sure if that one can be programmed with FORScan.

It is just listed as "Keypad" in the BdyCM (to use the listed name in forscan).

When I ordered it, I had used the ford points I got from getting the BS. Only cost $10 in tax.
Otherwise, I think Tasca Parts has it for cheaper than directly from ford.

I found a new part on ebay last night for $100 Inc shipping so I bought it, that was the best deal I could find.

So, just one more question, I watched the video you linked, thank you, the Tech unplugged / took out something, I believe he said it was something that wasn't needed anymore and this is where part of the new harness keypad would be secured, I didn't see where the new keypad gets plugged into, could you explain that part please, the cable routing, clipping into the door and where it plugs into.

Just trying to get as much information before I start the job when the part arrives.

Thank you.

Sorry about the delay.

The red circle is a mounting post of some kind for the exterior handle assembly inside the door.

The green circle is the location for inserting the push pin zip tied on the wiring from the keypad.

The blue circle is where the current wiring and blank plug with 2x yellow wires is located. The blank plug had a push pin on the back. The wiring from the harness in the door will drop once you disconnect it from the blank. The end of the keypad wiring will have a push pin to replace the blank then the wiring from the door can plug in.

No worries, the part from ebay I ordered came in, man, some of these guys trying to pass off used parts for new, unboxed the part and it was covered in swirls and scratches with no protective cover, I ordered one direct from Ford ~$40 more, at least one know it'll be a good unused part.

Got the new part in and installed this morning, there is a keypad in the ByCM and the APIM I enabled them both and everything worked fine.
Only small issue I had was finding the hole for the grey harness push pin, it's kinda behind the plastic window track, bit awkward to get to, other than that, no problems installed in about an hour.

Thanks for the help Kamikaze9000.

Thankfully my 2023 OBX had this on it. I admire you for trying this. I think I would be a little intinidated taking the door completely apart like the video shows. And I think I would be so concerned I would create new rattles that I wouldn’t find the courage to try doing this!

Just like Legos, one piece connects to the other. LoL.

The video made it look more complicated than it actually was, hardest part, for me, was finding the hole for the push clip.

Thank the Danish for lego. I swear if it weren't for lego as a child, I would be completely useless as a human being. I'm still terrible at maths and computers, but other than that I can suprize myself with how quickly I can pick things up.
