No need for lift with the 245.
I understand that he doesn't need one - he has one. I am saying since he has a lift, the 245s will look better than the 235s which will look small.

I have the wildpeak upgrade OEM and they have been outstanding in all conditions. Wet, snow, ice, mud, sand, loose gravel, 10mph hairpins in the mountains. 235 with standard setup looks nice. With a lift 245 would work. Can't go wrong with Ford spec.
d, sand,
The 245 Wildpeak AT3W are not Ford spec. Ford had Falken make the 235/65/17 to certain specifications to meet OEM requirements, such as more rounded edges, smaller sidebiters - and most importantly much less weight. The 235/65/17 weights 31 lbs (the OEM Contis I believe are 28 lbs). To show just how different this series of the AT3W is than the rest, the smaller 225/65/17 actually weighs more (33.7 lbs) The 245/65/17 weighs 39 lbs. I have the 235/65/17 on my BB, because the weight is reduced per Ford specs. I don't want to run a 40 lb tire on a 3 cyl engine. That said, with the 2.0L, I wouldn't hesitate running 245 AT3Ws or KO2s. You can easily fit the 245/65/17 AT3W on a BB with or without a lift, but there will be a performance and fuel economy impact. Some are willing to make that trade for a larger AT tire.

But this trade off is why many on this board that want 245/65/17 on a 1.5L choose the Toyo Open Country ATIII at 34 lbs. I considered this heavily (but the 235 Falkens were dirt cheap at the time.) Cheers!

Should have clarified. I have the 235...

Am I seeing this correctly that the 235/65/17 Wildpeak AT3W weighs less than the same sized Falken AT Trails?
The AT3W is a more aggressive looking tire over the Trails correct?
Is there a reason I wouldn't select the 235/65/17 AT3W over the same sized Trails or the 245/65/17 KO2 if I wanted aggressive appearance without sacrificing as much mpg?

I replaced those nasty Michelins with Falken AT Trails at standard size.
Nasty Michelins? I've run sets of them on other cars (Volvo's, Corvettes, and now the BS) with great tread wear and road manners. What's your beef with them?

You are reading it correctly. As has been discussed, the 235/65/17 AT3W is a bit different than the rest of the AT3W as Ford wanted it for an OEM tire, so Falken accomodated Ford by making some concessions regarding weight. Unfortunately, the lost weight is in the sidebiters and tread lugs, which makes this size of AT3W appear less aggressive than other versions of the same tire. I think that it still appears more aggressive than the AT Trail though, as that still has a more street friendly tread pattern. In my opinion, for the 1.5L engine, the 235 Falken AT3W was a great balance and while not as killer as the 245 version or KO2s, it is still a huge upgrade looks wise and doesn't kill your mpg or pocketbook.

Interesting as I had thought the A/T Trail was the OEM upgrade on the badlands, not the AT3W.

It’s this AT3W according to a post made by Falken…

Falken Wildpeak AT3w OEM 235/65R17 can be made in Thailand or Japan (OEM part# 59000690)
So anyone that purchases that specific tire is actually getting a lesser valued version of that line? Seems unethical to sell that sized tire without a disclaimer.

Well, I don’t think you can apply the adjective “lesser valued tire” as you are getting the full value of all components Ford chooses to install on any of their vehicles but I understand your point. Lesser value and full value is in the eye of the beholder.

The Pirelli tires on my Badlands probably are of the same sort of value proposition.

Have a look through this post as it does a good job explaining tires that vehicle manufacturers might use…

What I am saying is if that specific size of that tire is made different than all of the other sizes of that same tire and that difference reduces the side wall strength or other aspect that reduces the specifications without being told that, then yes it seems to be a violation of consumer protection. Other than people with ford bronco sports are purchasing that tire.
Typically OEM tires are made cheaper and you expect that when you purchase a vehicle. But if this tire is a part of the standard line of that manufacturer, it shouldn't be made to meet 1 vehicles requirements without telling all consumers that that specific size of tire is not made the same as all of the others.

Remember…. a Falken Wildpeak AT3w OEM 235/65R17 tire part number 59000690 is not the same as a Falken Wildpeak AT3w non-OEM 235/65R17 tire even though the title of both tires is highly similar.

I am not defending these tires ( I don’t even own either of those tires ) I’m just pointing you to links where others provided the info on those OE and non-OE tires.
Oh ok, so if you purchase the 235/65r17 from discount tire you are not getting a different tire over the other AT3w's? I was under the impression you were and that is why the 235/65r17 is so light at 31 lbs.
