Could somebody explain to me how to keep recirculated air from turning itself off please? No matter which mode I use, automatic or manual control that is, recirculated air switches off after a while. Went over the manual. Seems like automatic climate control is the only mode when recirculated air should be controlled. I'm new to Ford coming from Toyota so that's one of those features that's been quite irritating. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Page 131 left hand column, near bottom in the 2022 manual. Recirculate does have a mind of it’s own. Manual says in Auto or Manual modes it will go on/off on itā€˜s own or even prevent you from turning it on manually. Says it does that to prevent windshield fogging up.

Mine is 2021 YM. I see it there now. This feature's totally caught me off guard. I'm used to being able to control all the aspects of air flow in manual mode. I guess climate control nanny knows better. ? Thanks. for pointing it out.

Yup. Warm air holds more moisture than cold air, and when you recirc you keep all the moisture you exhale recirculating thru the HVAC system. Switching to fresh air forces the moisture-laden air out.

Must be Ford thing. As I said before, that's my first Ford. That particular "feature" or more like a constant annoyance still gets me all the time.

Thanks for all the replies.

I was confused just like you. Thought I was losing my mind and maybe forgot to turn it on. I see the benefits of it, but it would be nice if it turned it back on after a few minutes of fresh air. I’ve never seen it turn back on.

Right. I was digesting the replies last night thinking the same thing, which I forgot to mention - if it just turned back to the previous setting after taking over and fixing whatever needed fixing I would've been all set.

Air infiltration into the cabin that cannot be reliable controlled is the main issue for me.

Every newer vehicle I’ve driven lately does this. It seems most manufacturers are moving to this type of HVAC logic.

My Jeep will dump fresh air in the cabin periodically when recirculate is on but it doesn’t turn off the setting and resumes set operation 30-60 seconds later.

I noticed the behavior in our Sport this weekend where it disables recirculate. There are a couple nuances with the Sports hvac that I need to get used to that I haven’t experienced in my other vehicles.

Well, this is interesting. I did a 3 hour drive today, HVAC in auto mode with recirc on and it never switched recirc off. So it definitely does not automatically turn off all of the time.

Fords aren’t the only ones that do this. Had a QX80 rental for a week…it did it too.

my Excursion and F150 (sold) never did this. It’s a non brand late model vehicle trend
