In April I got check engine light, power t rain malfunction and then my car had reduced power on hills. I took it to the dealer and they installed a sj tube assembly and said leaking CPV. $550. The light came on again when I was going up a hill that demanded more power. I again had reduced speed. Took it to the dealer and they kept it 2 days and took it for test drive and said they couldn't make the light come on but I needed a allignment and new tires that could have thrown off the computer in the car. I did both for another $1000. The light came on again and again I took it back 2 more times. They said it could be the drive train turbo boost that is still under warranty but because they can't make the light come on can't do any warranty work as it needs justified. Both times after waiting 3 hours in the dealership they come back saying they took it for a ride and it seemed ok. Since then the light has come on 5 more times and I take pictures of my dash and mileage as well as the message that comes on my phone. I had another appointment and they again were only going to take it for a test drive. I said I have clear evidence there is a problem and it needs fixed as this has gone on for 4 months and apparently the parts they put on was not the issue. They put me on a wait list to come back in. The problem happens more when I"m on an interstate going 70mph and going up a grade and the light comes on and I drop down to 48 mph which was very dangerous for me as I had a tractor trailer behind me gong 70 and suddenly I slowed down with no power. Has anyone has this issue and if so what was the resolution? I truly can only use the car for local runs as it isn't safe on a open highway nor do I want to travel at 50 mph. When I turn of the car the check engine light goes out and doesn't come back on when I restart it and not every time I drive it.

That’s a terrible dealership service department

Do you have any other dealership choices to go to in your area?

When the check engine light comes on and you see the issue in the FordPass App the dealership can see the record of that and can see stored codes

Selling you tires and an alignment for the problem you took it in for is terrible dealership service

Most times the alert shows on my ford pass which I take a picture and take to my appointments but a few times it didn't show, maybe because I was in a mountainous area and it didn't have a good connection. I feel they just don't want to do this work and I agree, I already have thought of taking it to another Ford dealer much further away vs the place I purchased the car. I no longer feel safe driving it. I bought it new and have taken excellent care of it. WAy too many recalls on this vehicle as well. The battery failed before the recall came out and I had to buy a battery at a local parts store but Ford insisted I had to give them that battery when the recall came out and take another ford battery. They did pay me for the one I bought for $275.

Agreed. As a dealer employee, this is embarrassing to hear and it is things like this that give dealers a bad rep.

@sas Message me the VIN and I'll gladly take a look to see if I see anything helpful. On the surface, this seems to be a mechanical issue (not my strong area of knowledge) and not software related, but codes are stored for 60 days at a time in Ford's cloud, so I should be able to see what caused the hard fault.

Weird, Edmunds identifies it as a '21 OBX instantly. Wonder why it's not in PTS.
I tried typing into Carfax and it came back invalid, too. Probably a typo.

Same here. I'm thinking Edmunds doesn't actually validate VINs, just decodes the pertinent information (mfr, year, model).

Snap a picture of your vin from the door panel. I had this problem with my 25 getting car insurance.

It is a bronco sport outer banks 2021 and I took that vin off a recall notification for the battery recall and verified it on my title to be correct. I shouldn't have to prove there is an issue since I've presented photos of my Ford pass message and dashboard numerous times. I paid the car off one month before this check engine issue started. I already told them I'm not buying a new car but I also can't drive this one anywhere on a long or mountainous area as it is. In one instance in starting out slowly on down hill grade it felt like it was holding back, then made a loud clunk like a gear slipped. I even went back to be sure I didn't hit a speed bump or something on the road. The light came on them too and I had reduced speed. Once I turn the car off the light goes away and doesn't come back on till there is a demand for power. Its frustrating to still be dealing with this after 4 months. Thank you for reviewing my issue.

The dealer can read all codes your vehicle has triggered, they don't even need to be physically connected. Without knowing what the codes are you don't really know where the problem is coming from. And with your dealer saying you need tires and an alignment instead of addressing your vehicles real problem they are a joke.
Find another dealer.
Others on this board have had the same powertrain reduced power message from various causes. Here are some examples.
Bad turbo charger,.
Sticking cylinder deactivation solenoid
Sticking turbo charger waste gate actuator
Bad waste gate solenoid.
Bad or loose charge tube.
There are some other possible causes, but without the codes it leaves you at a huge disadvantage.
Some autoparts stores will read codes for free, if you do that you may get a basic idea of where the problem is.

Very weird that the VIN doesn't come up. Sorry I couldn't be more of help.

You may still want to look at the VIN below the windshield on the right front just to confirm that VIN # that you took off the recall and off the title matches what is stamped on the vehicle

This portion: 3fmcr9c61mra3 is findable online as a Bronco Sport and so is "3fmcr9c61mr" which matches many vehicles of course but is very odd that yours is not findable

You can confirm with the dealership what codes if any they pulled off your vehicle when it was in for service - they will give you that info over the phone if you don’t want to go in person
